The tarmac is super-abrasive (and hot), hence my problem with destroying front tyres

Rt56 used to be like that.... velcro for motorcyle tires and yes very abrasive.

Excellent trip and photos!  As I passed through Mexico and down to Panama, I was always surprised at how cold it can get down there in the mountains.  Everyone always thinks (including myself) that it is just scorching hot all of the time.  Especially in Mexico, I sometimes used all of my gear at night in the mountains and the coldest spot I thought was close to Cabo San Lucas in Baja California.  Had icicles growing off my 5 o´clock shadow. Keep up the good stories.  Think I´ll grab the wife and head down to the beach.

Next month or in February the mountains will get covered in snow. And it is very curious for the visitors being on the beach and seeing the snow mountains

You are right, it can be a little surreal.  I experienced that in Colombia and in Ecuador.  Have a photo somewhere of a palm tree in Riobamba, Ecuador with a snow-covered Chimborazo (20,564 foot high inactive volcano) in the background.  You never know what you will see when you are on the road.  Safe driving.
