Looking for first fj

If I were FJ less, I'd be all over that for $1500. Chances are, if it starts right up, doesn't smoke too much and runs good, it is good. Also, these motors are cold blooded. They take a bit of time to warm up and run smooth.
Remember, these motors make a lot of noise. You'll hear the valves and the clutch. All of that is normal, so don't freak out about it. I see that it has the orginal rubber brake lines. This should be the 1st thing you want to address.

It looks like it is in great shape. I paid $1500 for my 89 and it didn't even come close to looking as good as this one does. You should jump all over it for that price.

Price is seems right. Try to have someone from the area to check it out with you. I paid 1800.00 for my 1990 2 years ago. The FJ has to be the best power to money ratio bike out there plus parts and help are plentiful.  When it comes to older bikes the parts availability is important. Check out www.rpmracingca.com and see whats available. That's just one source (a good one). They sold FJ's worldwide for a long time.  Welcome to the mad house

Ok guys i got it.I will post some pics when i take some.Iam very impressed.This is a cool bike can't realy get on the road until monday got to get the title chage and plates..I don't want to bable but i feel like a kid with his  favorite toy that he has wanted for a long time.It just seems like this bike could be a combination of a lot of good things..

Iam not mechanically inclined but iam about to start trying.Found a tag office opened today.Got the title and tag.Went to take it out for a little spin.It idles to high between 2500 and 3000.Could this mean he set the idle for a reason like that or does it mean it just needs the id adjusted.If so iam about to learn how to do this.And i guess it means i will have to remove the tank to do this..

No, you don't have to remove the tank to adjust the idle.
The idle screw sits on the front end of the carburetors. You can turn it with your hand (gloves) or use a flathead screwdriver or something similar.

See if you can get your hands on a Haynes/Clymer workshop manual for your bike, it is REALLY money well spent!
Even better, see if you can find a Yamaha shop manual...

I have another question.A little smoke comes from under the seat and that happens when i let it idle for a while.I put half a can of seafoam in it.could that becausing build up in the carb to burn off?
