Carbs, UNIs and Suppertrapps

I finished my latest project way sooner than expected thanks to Frank (AKA Flynt) for carbs and UNIs and Steve (AKA Mopar Man) Supertrapps. To keep it short and sweet here is the before stock muffler look.

Then the condition of the Aluminum Supertrapps and clean up:

Note: Not polished (yet), then I would need to polish way too much for them to not look out of place.

Jitter bug with 120 grit to get the original brush finish off, then jitter but with scotch bright "Fine" to get the 120 grit marks out.

Needs some Red paint to fill in the darker corrosion, Power Ranger Bam!!!

Present look, and might I say, I love the throaty sound they have... The UNIs peeking out....

I am also shocked at how little choke is required with the carbs set up for the UNIs. Two clicks (the first just removes the slack in the choke cable), then after 60 seconds it will die if I don't get the choke off. No more Jetson's sound from my FJ.

Test ride tomorrow.

Thanks, I am most likely not gonna sleep tonight with thoughts of the intake growl from the UNIs and bark from the lighter weight and more open Supertraps ringing in my head. Good thing I have HIDs so I can suit up in my Ranger suit before sun up and Kookaloo like my ass was on fire..... That might not have the desired visual effect I intended...... Well it don't matter, if you can't catch me, you can't take pictures....

I got the Pipes, Pods and carbs out for a shakedown run today. What a blast!!! The stock pipes purr, the Suppertrapps GROWL. The induction howl really is music when you roll on the throttle. I think we all know what it means when your monkey is happy. Well I am one very happy Monkey now...

Randy was spot on in Napa when he diagnosed my oil leak (using only a flashlight), after replacing my starter O-ring the leaking has stopped. And Randy is also spot on telling me I can run fuel pump set up carbs on my gravity feed FJ. This allowed me to get back on the road and enjoy the FJ again. The only issue I had was at the end of the (80MPH/5K RPM) ride, very empty tank (filled up with after with 3.97 gallons), started to starve for fuel 10 miles before my fuel light lights up. Stalled, restarted and filled up. Thank you Randy, you rock!

Now to rebuild my old carbs without the pressure of not riding till I do. One more skill to add to my mental tool box.

Are the fuel pump carbs just a loaner set from Frank?

I am just borrowing them. The UNI pods he really does not want back. So I will rebuild my gravity feed carbs and not have a starving issue with a low tank. Then I can either ship them back or hold them till Frank finds another member that needs a loaner. So they can keep running while they send their carbs to Randy for his expert carb service.

Attending 3 rally's now have been helpful in so many ways. I have purchased parts to upgrade my 86 for way less than if I were on my own. All because I attended a few rally's, met some cool and friendly FJ owners, some of which thought of me when they had parts for sale and gave me first choice. The generosity and neighborly feel of this group makes me happy to give back where I can. Makes me wonder why the rest of the world can't get a long like this.... Less Kumbaya and more Kookaloo I say.

I remember when i first did this to my 86" ... definitely changed the character of the bike (and the rider's head )

Looks like you've getting her right where you want her now!

It's FJ Karma monkey....  be a friend = having friends!

I've met so many really cool people at FJ rallys over the years i would recommend everyone get to at least one rally closest to you if not all of them..... everywhere!

KOokaloo!  (not kumbayah)
