Brake Blues

A few weeks back, after fitting Blue Dots, I expressed my disappointment in them with standard pads, having previously run OEM 4 pots with EBC HH pads.

Thus making the upgrade a waste of money unless you fitted the better pads.

A number of people disagreed with my findings and suggested more riding would change my mind.

Well, 3000k's later with high speed, wet, dry, repetitive, hot, cold etc use, I am more convinced than ever. The EBC pads, and I'm only talking the HH, improve braking by a bigger margin than the Blue Dots.
The combination should be fantastic though, I'm waiting on pads.

Both my FJ's had crappy front brakes when bought and were greatly improved after o'hauling. Some of the people that noticed a huge change in braking when upgrading to Blue Dots may have had previous calipers not working at 100%.

None of this should be a surprise though, these are the best and grippiest pads you can get, and they last.

They cost no more than a couple of tanks of fuel

So, back to my original point, if you've invested in Blue Dots and not running these pads you are short changing yourself on the upgrade.

When I upgraded to the R-1 Gold Dot calipers 2 and a half years ago, I also put EBC-HH pads in them...............I also did Galfer SS lines, and FJR master cylinder at the same time.......The difference in braking over the stock setup was tremendous!
However, since I did everything at once, I couldn't say what made the most difference............
Once the pads wear out, I'll likely buy another set of the same ones.......They grip like crazy, they don't fade, and don't squeak or make any discernable noise while riding......
(however when I'm pushing the bike into the garage, they sound like grinding metal against my rotors) I would account that to the aggressive metal content in them.
My rear pads are just about to the point of needing replacement. I will probably put EBC-HH pads back there as well.

I have noticed the very same thing with my FJ outfitted with the Factory Yamaha R1 brake pads.
Make a very noticible dragging sound while pushing it at low speed, but I know that the calipers are releasing completely.
