At last! Another year of waiting has passed and once again I look forward to another 1000km spectacle of motorsport triumph! It's my one day a year I get to vege out on the couch with a dozen beers, a few bags of chips and some dip.
One of these years I'll get there in person but not this year...

Anyone here going, even better, riding the FJ there?  :yahoo:

Should be a good year, last year before the rules allow once more foreign makes and models into the mix.

Without starting a fistfight what's your flavour, Holden or Ford?   (popcorn) I'm a Holden man myself, but I'm not too feral about it, at the end of the day the best team wins doesn't really matter who and it's a damn fine race to watch..  :yahoo:

James, I've not been during the 2 horse race era. Used to attend fairly regularly way back when anything and everything raced, and also went to the Easter bike races a few times.
Now that the field is being opened up again, I might just be interested in going again!

Enjoy your couch day mate.

+1 James. I luv Bathurst no matter the breed of vehicle. I can remember one Easter 1969, I spent 2 days camped on the Hill at Bathurst in my Light Blue 1967 HR Panel van with Chrome wheels (Oh yeeahhh the brake hubs were matching blue too). Then went on to the metropolis of Orange, to Race Short Circuit (DB32 in a hagon frame) then back over the range via Bilpin for "Scrambles" on a yamaha DT250. -The best 4 day weekend ya could wish for.
We couldn`t afford the admission into Bathurst.
I remember sneaken thru the long grass at 2am with a mate while my girlfriend (A real Pretty Knockout chick aged 17  - we`d had been together for 3 years which I think is illegal?) drove thru the ticket entrance with 3 dirt bikes on the trailer and 2 sets of mens one piece leathers hangin up in the back. The 2 ticket sellers had a fire raging in a drum (Cause it`s always cold at Bathurst in the dark). So they starts cracken on to the girlfriend, chaten `er up no end, (i`ve often wondered if they knew we were there) and I was seriously thinkin of doing a Rambo outa the scrub and  punchin their lights out - but of course couldn`t afford to. -Wanted ta make sure that never happened again, - So I married her.

...........The car, Bikes and girl look a little different these days, she`ll still drive the getaway car and I`m still ready to defend her - unless of course I get free tickets inta Bathurst! or Phillip Island! (Somethings never change)

For our Seppo mates, Bathurst is a hick town west of Sydney.

Once a year, the V8 powered taxis drive around in circles there.
There's two types of taxis, General Motors or Ford.
They are pretty much Pontiac G8's
Our Bogans,(think inbred Aussie redneck Hill Scoggin) bless their hearts, lose their shit completely, they hoot and gibber at each other all year long about it.

It's eerily similar to NASCAR,attracts pretty much the same fan and is as excruciatingly boring as well.

Not any more.

They no longer share a single component with their look-a-like road going counterparts, not even body panels, which makes the whole Holden v Ford thing wierd.

Except - there's bends that go BOTH ways! And bits of track that go UP and then bits of track that go DOWN!
And that's why they call the winner the Kiing of the Mountain.

Mt Panorama is the hill, not a mountain to be sure but it's still a damn big hill to drop a racetrack on.

To give you an idea, here's a Kiwi setting the lap record that remained unbeaten for 7 years..  (popcorn)

Ahhh, the glory that was the Easter long weekend bike races at Bathurst when ruggedly handsome, suave and debonair motorcyclists would nightly battle cowardly cops for control of the mountain.
Burnouts and impromptu drag races led to police baton charges that were met by a hail of gasoline soaked toilet paper rolls, anarchy and chaos reigned supreme for the weekends, the cops loved it too.

QUOTE

The Easter bike races on Mt Panorama began in the 1930s as biker camp out, "clubman" affairs. From the early1960s motor bike enthusiasts became identified and amplified in the media as a deviant culture (the Hells Angels image) and conflict between police and bikies ("police baiting") became institutionalised ? ritualised even. Each Easter young men of mostly working class origins headed for Bathurst expecting to contest with police what was acceptable behaviour in public space. Each Easter 300 or so police (also young men of mostly working class origin) rostered on for overtime at Bathurst knowing they would be contesting space with bikers who had no respect for them
