Have just purchased an 87 fj1200 with a 4 into 1 Yoshimura exhaust and i would like to change the oil. Does anyone else have this system and can the drain bolt be removed without shifting the exhaust? If i do have to move the exhaust i would appreciate any tips that might help eradicate any future headache. Thanks in advance. :good2:

Sure, put the bike on the side stand and remove the left side oil cooler line fitting at the oil pan.
A bit messy with the oil draining over the merge collector but some S100 soap and a cold water rinse and you are good to go. Add a RPM spin on filter adaptor and you're golden.
Buy a half dozen or so of the o rings for the pan fitting and replace one every fourth oil change...
Cheers

Ok, thanks Pat sounds easy now. Are those spin on adapters available this side of the pond?

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods
( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne

Ok, my spin on filter adapter from RPM is on it's way. Which filters can i use with the adapter? ( might be different over here?).
Will wait for it to arrive before i change the oil. If i drop the oil from the left oil cooler hose will i need anything else? Is there any gasket or seal that might need replacing or does the hose just bolt up again?

It all depends on where in the world you are located. There are US as well as international filters listed on the installation instructions.

Let me know where you are and I will forward some numbers.

Do all of the filters listed in relation to the RPM adaptor pretty much all have the same oil seal diameter. I had a look at a HiFlo 303 which i would have thought has the same dimensions as a K&N 303 and it was very tight to cover the holes. Think you would be relying on the squeeze of the filters sealing ring to keep the oil in.
Is this generally the case that it's that tight with the filters?
Anyone using either a K&N 303 or K&N 202 with the RPM adaptor?

The K&N filter does contact the outer edge of the holes, but that is not an issue. The WIX filter I offer has a slightly larger seal area and almost completely clears the holes, very similar to the K&N.

To date, the only filters I can find that will completely clear the holes are wither too long or too big to fit within the confinements of the available area.

I have sold over 80 WIX & 33 K&N filters and have never had a leak or issue when used with the adapter. if the Hi-Flo has the same specs as the K&N it will work without any problems.

Thanks Randy, will go with a K&N which are more available here. Do the 303 and 202 have the same dimensions in relation to the seal?
Cheers, Sean.
