For those of you who use the Cardo Scala Q2 or similar rider-to-rider or rider-to-passenger intercom systems, I thought you might appreciate this modification. I've had the Q2 multiset for a few years now and overall I've been quite pleased with the performance and reliability. The only downside has been the sound quality and volume when listening to music (via my Garmin Zumo 550 hardwired to the Scala). I did some searching on the interweb and found a useful link on the ADVRider website: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=442304

I bit the bullet last night and tried the modification myself. It was a bit finicky to do but I pulled it off!

The only thing I did differently was I tinned the wires but not the terminals - instead I ran the wires through the holes and then soldered them in place.

The earbuds shown are the do-it-yourself ones from Earfuze: http://www.earfuze.com/. The sound quality is good and they fit well - you can ride all day without any discomfort (at least in your ears) and they stay in place!

You're absolutely right Zwartie, the music quality sucks and the volume can be iffy unless the speakers are in exactly the right spot. I too have that same combination ( Q2 / Zumo 550 )and like you have nothing but praise for the Q2, but why do you have them hardwired?  They connect with Bluetooth. I have my phone, GPS and Q2 all connected with each other via bluetooth. I like your mod for the open road but I don't wear plugs around town, my ears are my extra set of eyes in traffic, and I do like being able to use my phone.
