Bought my first tank bag

I've never had a tank bag before, and when I bought the FJ I thought it really could use one. But I wanted one that I could put my lunch box in for work, had a rain cover, map cover, something reasonably large that didn't break the bank. So I bought this one:

http://www.motorcyclegear.com/parts/luggage/tank_bags/first_gear/nylon_expandable_magnetic_motorcycle_tank_bag.html

First impressions:  :yahoo:  :i_am_so_happy:  :good:

Took some pictures for you guys, I don't own a nice camera so the cell had to do. It's got tons of different ways to use it, expands nice and big, closed down it's reasonable size. It has a base it unzips from that leaves you with a map pocket, and reveals back pack straps on the tank bag. The magnets are well placed and work with the FJ tank very well. It also comes with stretch cords so you could use it as a tail bag even, has many uses! I've bought a lot of firstgear stuff now, they seem to make a good product for the money

Looks like a great bag. I really like my magnetic tank bag, easy to use. Just remember don't put your wallet in there.  :nea:

I had also never owned a tank bag until recently because I always have one of several bags on the back, depending on what i'm doing.  Now I'm a convert and I love it.  I chose this Givi bag with the "tanklock" system because having no contact with the tank and the ease of taking on and off appealed to me.

I'm very interested in getting this style of tank lock/tank bag, but they don't seem to list the tank ring for the FJ on any of the sites I have visited.
What did you use?
Did you have to get one from a different model and modify it, or was it a bolt on?

Thanks,
Leon

They don't have an FJ specific listing but said most Yamahas are the same and I think this one was listed as an XJR / FJR tank ring and bolted straight on.  I also bought a 2nd tank ring for my other bike so I can use it on both.  I love the bag and all it's features.  My only criticism is the clear pocket on the lid is an awkward shape for serious maps. Everthing else about it is terrific.

Another point of interest for me was the locking mechanism.  It is very simple by design and very robust in construction and therefore should last.

I've had tank bags for probably 43 of the 45 years I've been riding.  (I was a slow learner)
The 2 best have been the Bagster that I use on my FJ (along with the tank cover), and the Givi tanklock bag that I bought after seeing Noel's (Ribbert).
I don't use it on my FJ, but on my Aprilia which has a plastic tank with a plastic tank cover and very little room to thread straps through over the engine.  I especially like that it holds the base of the bag above the tank so no rub marks.
The only problem with this Givi bag is the price - and for once, it would have been just as expensive to purchase in US or EU. :-(

Sure looks like the "Givi Silver Range Easy Lock Tank Bag (T480)" pictured here:

Indeed it does, thanks Dan... I was hoping Givi made something w/o the electronic gadget holder in the top.

I'm curious, what's the problem with electronic gadget holder?  Either don't use it, cut a bit of foam to fill it or, like me, cover it with a map.
