OK,

I had the frame powder coated up in AK and have since relocated to NV.  The DMV wants to verify the VIN but I can't find it.  The manual says its on the right side of the frame and the DMV guys say its on the steering head.  before I go ripping the powder coating off I'd like to know where to start looking.  It's an 85 FJ1100.  Can somebody verify where theirs is and drop me a note.  Thanks

You're right, the DMV guy is wrong.  If you turn your bars straight ahead the right fork will be aprox in the center of the vin number, as you said on the top side of the frame. There is a sticker under the steering head on a flat spot with the vin also. But that is probably gone and painted too.

Nevermind, I found it, it was right where the book said it would be and right where I'll have to look at it when I'm riding it.  thanks for looking if you did.

I'm getting it back on the road after 6 years of working on it that started when some JA knocked it over in a parking lot and cracked the clutch cover, and ended up with the following:

Frame powder coated
Painted dark gray
1314cc kit
APE shaved crank (-7 pounds and balanced to 14000 RPM)
complete head rebuild with new valves, springs etc by APE in CA
Head porting and Polishing (APE Racing in CA)
new set of mikuni Radial flatside carbs
Galfer brake lines
Speedscreen tinted windshield

I've run it around the block a few times and my brothers V-max can't keep up in roll -ons.  I'm trying to be gentle but she really wants to run.   once I get it put back together after this latest pain in the a$$ I'll post some pictures.  Thanks again for the website, happy riding
