84 1100-How do I re-set my synch screws to start all over to synch carbs. I had it perfect and then screwed it up royally so it runs real bad now.
Now when I set up my synch tool [Motion Pro] the #1 carb is pulling high vacuum, so much so that I can only let it idle for 2-3 seconds or it will pull fluid out the top of my tool, so i shut down engine to prevent this.  #2, #3 and #4 levels look good on the tool.

You've got #1 closed too far, that's why it's pulling too much vacuum.  Turn the sync screw such that it opens up the #1 throttle plate.  I'm not sure which direction that is without  looking at a set of carbs.

Okay, just looked.  Turn the #1 sync screw clockwise to open up the throttle plate.

Oh, and hurry up and get it fixed so you can get out there and pass someone on the right!  :-)

OK, that  sounds right cause it sounds like its really rich.  I looked how the #1 carb was engaging compared to 2,3,and 4 visually as I just engage the throttle and set it by sight so the #1 engages with the others, but that did not do it.  Is there any way the screw could not be opening the throttle plate
correctly?  Like I turned it in to far or loosened it up to far previously?

The comment about passong someone on the right- could you explain that one?  I have a little story after you explain that.

SlowOldGuy

Did you lose the spring under the sync tab?

I don't really understand what you're adjusting "by sight"  can you explain it better.

The throttle plates on all the carbs should move at the same time.  There should be no slop or lag.

If #1 is the only one giving you a problem, you should be able to open it up to decrease the vacuum level.

DavidR.

just ignore the passing statement.  :-)

Spring under screw is good. Thanx.  Setting the butterfly by sight means when i had rebuilt carbs before I installed them, I set all the butterfly valves the same so the gaps were the same and they all opened the same visually/by eyesight. The bike started right up using this method, but after putting a few miles on it, I could tell it was running a little rough. So I bought a synch tool.  By the way, free carb synching here in Albuquerque in my garage.

This time I did the same before I tried to synch them, by removing the airbox and setting the #1 butterfly comparing it to the other 3.
This got it within the ballpark and I then used my synch tool to balance them. The problem that cropped up during the set-up that I was unaware of was my #2 cylinder quit firing and that is why it was running so rough. I mistook that for #1 being out of adjustment.  I got that working again long enough to resynch and test ride bike. Thanx oldslowguy.
