Engine cuts out when I go down to 1st gear

In my wisdom of taking my bike apart to sell off parts :hang1:, then to realize the gear shift bolt could be fixed by Eric, I had already taken the fairing off and all the covers. When I reconnected everything and Eric got my clutch slave cylinder rebuilt, When I put it in first gear, the bike shuts off.
Did I possibly reconnect something that was disconnected on purpose? Any help with which direction to go on this would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the safety switch down by the side stand.

thats been deleted by one of the previous owners, do you know what the wire colors are and where that goes to so I can trace it?

You need to find those 2 leads and connect them together.  Otherwise it will die every time you put it in gear.

Also check that the clutch switch is working.

would I know that the clutch switch is working by the clicking when I pull the clutch lever?

Clutch switch is working when it lets you start the bike in 1st gear with the lever pulled in.. If it stil doesn't start then you know it doesn't.

It doesn't start in first with the clutch lever pulled in, is this an easy fix, or a head banger?

Is the kickstand up or down.  If it's down, and it doesn't crank, then that's your original problem (sidestand switch).  If it cranks with the sidestand in the up position, then the clutch switch is okay.

The side stand switch connects behind the left sidecover. The connector has a blue wire with a yellow tracer, and a black wire. The two wires need to be connected to eachother for the bike to run.

Could be the neutral switch causing the problem.....

maybe the starter cut out relay behind the fairing has come unplugged , mine was doing  strange things when the connector to that relay unit was partly unpluged, as it runs a few items   (popcorn)
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

That's the same deal with mine. I can get it to start 60% of the time. This morning, no matter what I did, I couldn't get it.I might just kick it, sometimes that works :-)
