Whats up fellow Fj owners!

I've been laying a little low on this forum, and I've read though quite a bit of great information.

I've been building for the past year now an 85 Fj1100. I bought the bike with a blown top end, partially dis-assembled and with a new 1250 block piston and rings.

Needless to say the cases had to be opened up to accommodate the larger sleeves.

The pistons are weisco 10.5 to one pistons. I looked up the number stamped on top to verify and pulled the bottom end completely apart to look for the infamous 2nd gear damage and so I could get the cases machined. All the main bearings were in great shape, so I didnt bother pulling the rods off the crank, may of been a smart idea but no worries the inside of the motor were immaculate.

After alot of work on the cylinder head I got all 16 valves to seal 100% and finally got the block back from the machine shop.

*CARB REPAIR TIP HERE*Today I finished tweaking the carbs as much as possible on the bench. They Actually had been sitting on the bench for over a year. Everything on the carbs were in great condition as they were cleaned before being sat up. The only problem I had dis-assembling them was the pilot air speed screws were all locked pretty well. The inside of the threads has quite a bit of corrosion on them. It was actually quite a project getting them out w/o damaging the body. After chasing the threads in and out the screw started to strip regardless of how tight a fit the screw driver was. Eventually there was no way to turn the screw. Simply useing a center punch mark a small hole and useing a center punch. Than get a small drill bit (very small like 1/16th) use a tap style ratchet to hand drilled a small hole. Easy outs wont work here because the brass is so soft it just opens the hole up. Next once you have a hole thats about 1/8 inch or so deep, TAKE A SMALL TORX BIT T8 OR T10 AND SOFTLY TAP IT INTO THE HOLE YOU JUST DRILLED. Than with a ratchet extract the stuck air screw.

Setup so far

1100 cc engine oversized to 1250cc
weisco pistons
fjr1250 h/g
no basegasket (nice layer of yamabond on both cases and block) no leaks so far
EST  10.8 to 1 compression.
Stock head cams and top end
Fresh cam chain and starter drive chain
stock carbs with pod filters

carb jetting

120 Mains
stock air bleed (155 or 55 iirc)
42.5 Pilot
stock needle
non adj(one of the first carb mods ill do other than re jetting)

Barnett clutch engagement

Left to do:

Drive the damn thing!! It got to dark at the shop, well at least to be comfortable on a first test ride. I have to put the tank and side panels on it but honestly I could of rode it today. But hey I'm off tommorow to unleash this BEAST!!

Future modifications

Shift kit, even though the transmission looks good and shifts good (tested on centerstand while holding back break to load engine and test clutch engagement after bleeding) I'm still going to ensure that it stays shifting good.

Dyna 2000 digital ignition system. I have the box, and whats left of the harness but if anyone can direct me to find a replacement harness it would be awesome, this ignition may of been on a legends car or something because the harness is all hacked up( i think legends allows replacement ign??) regardless its ugly but if not available i may be able to repair it. and i need the crank trigger but there on ebay for a few bucks.

I also have an aftermarket rear shock. Its pretty old, and the mount for the adjustment is busted. So after I dis-assemble it ill see if its repairable. (i dunno if i can even get replacement parts)

Also, I'm going to get one of the RPM fork valves to increase front adjust-ability and feel.

And later on down the road I'll end up with some better wheels  and breaks, of course in the mean time ill have stainless lines and possilby a nissan 9mm-3/4" radial M/C.

PICS COMING SOON!!!

I think that'll work for a pic, right after I got the motor crammed in.

I found it REALLY easy. Put the motor on a bike lift, Jack the bike itself up from the suspension joint underneath slide the engine under the frame with the front strapped and lower frame down on motor. adjust motor on jack to clear frame rails. so simple

So, I finished it up for now. I ended up having to acid wash the gas tank. Who would of thought it would rust so bad in just a year on the shelf. LOL  :unknown:

Anyway after making block plates to cover holes for fuel gauge and pickup I poured some acid in the tank sloshed around quite a bit using all PPE of course rubber gloves and face protection that craps potent. So finally got it washed out fairly well until one of my block plates started leaking. Like I said its STRONG after I poured the acid into a large container I rinsed with weaker acid and than finally water.

After that I finally got it on the road.

Boy does this thing scream. Im going to get some sort of exhaust but for now its just open collectors with black chrome turndowns. heres some pics
