Our mate Bill 'the fan' is busy elsewhere at present.

Is there anybody else you guys would entrust your life... errr Forks to, to get rebuilt? I'm not impressed with the local couple of mechanics. Whoever it is has to be willing to receive and send the forks by mail.

I've moved again, been divorced by my unfaithful ex-wife and NOW I have the cash available, and the FJ is now back in the top priority position.

C'mon guys.... I need my girl back on the road so I can get my kookaloo on. Seriously. Mate I'm crashing with lets me ride his bike (kawa Vulcan 2000) but it ain't the FJ.

Yep SHE divorced ME. Well that DID happen after I yelled at her that I wanted a divorce. I guess she got tired of waiting for me to get over the first time she cheated, three years ago. Anyway. Help me get my bike back on the road, and that'll go a long way to improving my outlook.

RumBoy,
I have had great success with RPM with the front forks as well as other items. I would recommend the fork valves (which they developed specifically for FJ's) along with the fork brace. Since installing the fork brace, there has been no seepage at all from the seals. And the fork valves are a vast improvement over stock.
Check out the web site, as bushing & seals are offered. Speaking from first hand experience, Randy does excellent work.
Regards,
Mike Ramos.

If you have some basic mechanical skills you can make the two specialty tools from common hardware store items and rebuild the forks your self, including upgrading them to the RPM valve. I did mine for the first time last month. I avoided doing them over the years out of ignorance, the forks were Pandora's box to me. Being the cheap bastard that I am I decided I was gonna learn by doing. The forks are not Black Magic, or brain surgery, or rocket science and can be done by many. If you perform basic wrenching already then there are many on this site to help you get it done including myself. And you will know it was done properly. Best peace of mind to myself and many here that will shoot any mechanic that just wanders close enough to look at their FJ.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

He is spot on. I spent a lot of years avoiding this issue, but also being a cheap bastid, I recently decided to bite the bullet and hunker down. It really wasn't a big deal, these guys talked me through a few issues and it was a total success. I'd do it again tomorrow and have the confidence to tackle it in the future. It was funny, they didn't set up right the first time, a friend was over and deciced he wanted to help, I had them off, rebuilt and back together in about two hours, he was amazed that we had it finished that quickly and loved the way the bike rode. He was impressed and I was proud a bonehead like me could accomplish it... I understand if you want a pro to do it, but sometimes we have to resort to other plans and I agree you could pull this off with these guys help and pocket some $ for the next project or issue that arises..

Thanks for all the comments guys.  My situation isn't currently conducive for much self-help in regards to wrenching. No workbench.... my tools are in the basement in storage, and I had the excess funds, so I went ahead and got 'em done. Damn, what a difference, with a new Pirelli and a fork brace from RPM the ol' girl is sticking like glue, and no more steering wobble if I let the bars go, at any speed.

Awesome!

I depart these sunny shores this coming Saturday, and am looking forward to coming back to get a new rubber on the rear (already bought and in the basement), and adjust the rear shock, now that I know how to DO IT the way I want it.
