Corbin seats...

...how much do they actually lower the seat height?
I'm thinking that by the end of the year I might have the funds to get a Corbin seat ( ).
Probably the Gunfighter and Lady model.

However, I am quite tall. Well, 6' 4".
At the moment I sit quite comfortably on my FJ. I'm thinking that lowering the seat height might make it a bit more awkward.

I have a new shock with adjustable ride height lying around, waiting to be installed.
I guess that would make up for some of the difference, but I'm wondering if it would be worth the effort to contact Corbin and ask them for a custom fit?

This is really for future reference, but I can't help daydreaming...

I am 6'2" and I didn't like my Corbin at all. It put me lower and further back on the bike. My knees were cramped as my legs felt folded under me.  I like being a little more over the front wheel, I feel more in control.

The seat is real comfortable on longer rides, except for the knees. Your results may vary.

PS, got the rear brake all boxed and will go to the Post Office after work for the shipping cost to Sweden. It feels all of about 5 lbs and fit in the smaller USPS box.

Absolutely, PRICELESS, costs no more to have it custom. Mines a inch taller than a stk corbin, and my part is built to the gun fighter spec with her losing the 1/2 to 1 in can't remember. But she's little

They do lower it a bit that's why I did what I did, next one may still be taller. I'm 6 ft but have real bad knee's (damm dirt bikes)

If you get a used one, peeling the cover back and padding it yourself is still an option.  I rounded the outer edges off a bit and
padded the middle to get the seat to fit my liking.

Nat, the best advice is to try out one first . If you are going to one of the rallys , ask to borrow a corbin and try it out.
I am 6'4" or 6'5" depending on which liquor store I am leaving and have put a corbin seat with the lady backrest on my 86.
It lowered the seating position some and made the reach to the bars easier and more comfortable . I found I did not have to pinch the tank with my knees as much and it made it easier setting up for corners by  sliding my ass on the seat  instead of lifting it . It did take some getting used to.  You are gonna want to install that shock and lift the rear end.

the people at corbin are very accommodating and willing to help with any special request.  One of the fj guys had his redone in leather and does not like it because he lost the butt slide factor of the vinyl.

I'll weigh in....

I am 6'4" and toured from Michigan to Los Angeles and up into BC Canada in 1988 on an 86' FJ with a stock seat... an absolutely brutal experience.  When I switched to the Corbin on my newer FJ I did the same tour in reverse and there was not nearly the same level of discomfort- I love the Corbin.  What surprised me is that the Corbin seat is actually harder than the stock one. The Corbin folks explained that the softer material ends up causing most of the pain. The Corbin is wider, harder and flatter.  Mine was not custom shaped to my butt - I just ordered it and had it shipped. I never really noticed too much of a change in the seat height although I do think it dropped a bit.  My knees are not relieved by raising the seat a bit nor any worse for having it a bit lower..... the knees do end up aching but that is just par for the course when you are taller... or at least that is my experience.

I could ride on the stock seat for only about 2 hours then I had to get off.  The stock seat on the FZ1 was even worse!  With the Corbin I can ride all day.

All 3 of my streetbikes have Corbins.

Seems like there are as many preferences as there are people, which is the way it is supposed to be!

I can imagine getting the leg cramps if the seating position was lowered below the stock seat height, right now it feels OK. I usually ride upright, not really hugging the tank if you know what I mean. Not sure if that would make it better or worse though.

Mark, wish I could make it to a rally, but my FJ is in Sweden, and so am I at the moment...
Never seen a Corbin seat over here. There must be other options, but I like the look of the Corbin and plan to do a lot of two-up riding in the future.

Bob, that seems to be the best option, just to be sure that the height is OK. Add adjustable ride height with the Penske to the mix and we might have a winner.
Maybe 2'' extra would do the trick?

Bob, how much did this actually raise the seat compared to stock?
Was it the same height, or taller?
I have to guess since I can't try it out myself. But I am satisfied with the height that the stock seat provides.

Definitely the butt....   I can ride all day on the Corbin too but I do rotate between a few "positions" and I regularly flex or clench up to restore circulation and eliminate numbness etc...  I also straighten my legs or stand up briefly a couple of times an hour when doing the longer distances....

A long boring drone is uncomfortable even in my truck!  I've done a few on the bike, and it's ugly even with a Corbin.

But in the twisties where I'm moving around on the bike and using my legs a lot of the time, the Corbin lets me enjoy it all day with relative comfort. 

I've had more than a few complaints from other riders in my group when we go to Arkansas.  Not only is the FJ far more confortable, it goes a LOT farther on a tankful of fuel.  When I finally do stop, it looks like everyone else is dragging themselves off of a torture rack.  I'm fueled and ready to continue and they're still walking around and stretching trying to work out all the kinks.
