Not such a good idea.

He managed to lose control of my bike and bend the front forks by 20 degrees and wreck a couple farrings. However!!! Bike is not written off!

I was wondering if the Forks are interchangeable from the FJ900 to the FJ1200, or if the FJ1200 88' can use forks from any other model.

Thanks

Pat Conlon

Chances are, just the stanchion tubes are bent. All FJ's use the same 41mm stanchion tubes.

Bike is not written off!

Be aware the frame, wheel, rotors, triples, maybe swing arm and rear subframe are likely bent and should be straightened.  I have just been through this with a bike that was visually pretty straight and the forks were way less bent than yours are.  It was off several degrees in head stock angle and all major specifications were out of factory limits.  Frame Man in Sac did everything back to +/-0 (which only cost $70 on top of all the straightening), so I'm hopeful it will ride better, although honestly it rode pretty well when bent to shit.
I am just getting it together, so we'll see if it rides better soon I think.   :yahoo:

Back in the day ... V65 Sabre ... not  my bike but a co-worker.  Brand new bike ...he rode it to where we worked.  Lent it to another co-worker to let him take his new bike for a spin.  He did. Spin .. wipeout ..etc.   We are both just waiting for him to return... half hour goes by.... 45 minutes...ooh I guess we better go find out what happen.  He's a mile down the road... ok .. bike is bunged up pretty good.  Lesson learned by all.

If the boy has the money -- maybe but I want it up front.  BEND IT you MEND IT --- Klavdy says...

After 20 bikeless years, a friend suggested that I use his Suzuki bandit while he was out of town for a couple of weeks. So I did.  That's when I started looking for an FJ.

depends on how good a friend.

It used to be my gauge of skill for the friend is if they stall it on the first try and can't even go a few feet they don't get to ride it.

now they must also possess a current m/c license and be financially solvent to manage any repairs (so they end up paying for more upgrades)

I also require a urine sample and dna with a live scan finger print.

there are 3 people that have ridden my  fj since I have owned it  .

1 myself
2 my friend that I bought it from (who wishes like hell he never sold it to me)
3 my father who was 73 at the time and has ridden every bike i've ever owned.  (said it was a good one and I should keep it for awhile) father knows best.

The General

Today my DR650 takes to the scrub with a responsible mate that`s taking his daughter for a trail Ride. (She`s on his KLR 650) His name is permanently added to my insurance policy (they don`t charge extra here).
At the Australian Rally I added Arnie`s to the policy on FJ1. (Took 60 seconds and can be done the day before - I usually take one off when I add the next, but generally there`s about 6 names on that particular policy)
My 4 bikes are insured (agreed value) for way more than there worth at an average cost of less than $5 a week. With name added to policy the rider only has to pay $400  if he drops it - and I get around $1000 extra ta cover my pain and suffering, :diablo: - as an FJ accident, (Even in a carpark) writes them off, due to the retail costs of plastics.

Wifey tells me it doesn`t make sense ta have 3 FJ`s so I gotta sell one. But I`m having trouble with both the purse strings and the heart strings. -- was kinda hoping some more yanks might put there hand up for the next Rally in Bellingen ( http://www.bellingenvalleylodge.com.au/ ).  They might safely drop it near the airport on tha way home and I could pick it up from there.

You forgot to include your tools!  I have a strict policy on tools but I am a little more relaxed with the bikes....  I have a few vintage two strokes and at times it is really fun to get some friends together and all go out for a ride...  Occasionally the bikes break.  But, there has never been a fall because I am highly selective about who gets to ride my bikes.  If you arrive on your own bike that is a strong indicator that you at least understand how the bike works.  If you have all the proper gear with you that is a second strong indicator etc....  It seems like most of these stories happen when the bike is lent to someone that it really never should have been handed to....

I would let any obviously accomplished rider from this forum ride my FJR1.  I see that as the same chances I have of dumping the bike.  Of course the break it buy it rule is just common courtesy...

Sorry to hear your bike got rashed and bent!
