Hi guys,
I'm going to need a roadworthy when I transfer the bike to me, does anyone know of any decent places around Melbourne (preferably near Tullamarine) which won't rob me?

Also would like to know of any local spare parts stockists.

Cheers,
Dave

A lot of the dealerships have RWC licences ( they need to be motorbike specific) for their own convenience but discourage the public by charging silly $'s and needing the bike for an unreasonable amount of time and and quoting silly lead times. There is a cluster of bike businesses in Olive Gve Ringwood (about 30 secs. off Eastlink) tyre shops, accessory shops, general workshops, dealerships etc. and I believe a couple of those have RWC licences.  It may not be close to Tulla but it's easy to get to on Eastlink and with a new FJ under you, what's a few extra k's.

Your intro suggests you're new to Victoria.  If so, we are blessed with not only some of the best riding in the country, but the most accessible.  The Great Ocean Road, dairy country, Alpine region, mountains, fast, tight, all within an hour or two of Melbourne. And, despite what those northerners will tell you, we have the best riding weather.

If you need any help with the FJ, I'm not far away in East Ivanhoe, PM me if you need a hand.

Thanks for the info Noel....

I've been here 4 years (almost) & now have permament residency.  :drinks:
Love the GOR: I've only been down there once, with the local guys from the Skyline club, and had a blast.
I'd be a bit worried doing it on the bike- there were several huge potholes!

So far I know I need a set of mirrors for the FJ, and also noticed that one of the rear brake nipples is leaking from the thread.
I've never seen a brake nipple weep there before- I checked and it was tight.
I dunno if you're allowed to put PTFE tape on it?

Thanks for the offer of a hand, appreciate that.

Cheers!

Hi Dave,

A bit of tape will probably fix it and yes it is an unusual place to leak from.  If it's tightening up, the threads not stripped and you should be OK.

CBR1000 mirrors are the mirror of choice around here.  They're cheap and plentiful, both genuine and aftermarket.  The original ones are a bit short and a lot of guys change them for just that reason.

You've been here 4 years and only hit the GOR once?  Shame on you.  I have done it about 500 times - never, ever get tired of it.

only in extreme cases do most of us buy anything here in Australia for the FJ as the stealers here charge tripple for parts, can get most parts thru Randy @ RPM Racing you will find they will be delivered before they can be ordered by the local stealers and @ a much better price,

Dave,

Assuming your bike is "right" already, Peter Stevens in Geelong has been advertising RWC checks for $45.
I don't know if that also applies to their other branches.

Depending on what year your FJ is, I have a set of CBR copy mirrors that I'm sure we could come to a friendly agreement about and let you both pass RWC and see behind you.

As others have said, Randy (rpmracingca.com) is an excellant place to get parts from.  I'd be very surprised if you were able to find any dealer in Oz who stocks anything FJ, or who can supply as quickly as Randy even though he's in California.  We don't even want to start talking about prices :-)

Thanks for the info guys,

Nice to join such a helpful group.  :greeting:

Arnie: the bike is a 90 model... can you pm me a price on the mirrors?

I've already spend a happy half hour going through randys' site - I could spend a small fortune there lol

Cheers!

Sure beats spending a LARGE fortune at the local dealers, huh? :-)

LOL You said that right Arnie - I loathe stealerships!  :negative:
