Finally, the GSXR swap is done, and wearing some Pilot Road 2's. A big thanks to Craigo for the write up, Mark for measuring stuff for me, and everyone else who offered up words of wisdom.  Of course, now that it's on, it's supposed to rain the rest of the weekend and I won't be able to test it out until Monday AHHHGGGG!. I'm so looking forward to it!

What tire size are you running?
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

'86 Ambulance - Bent frame, cracked case, due for an overhaul
'89 Stormy Blue - Suits my Dark Side

I played it safe and went for the 170/60 and 120/70.
There is more room than I thought, and I probably could have squeezed a 180 on there, but I think i'll be happy with what I have.

Thanks, I put a 180 Dunlop Q2 on and the chain is rubbing off the edge of the tire. Not sure if I want to bump down to 170 or use a VFR offset sprocket and shim the rear sprocket out. Looks good, I am loving my GSXR upgrade, I am sure you will as well.

Good going Kevin.  Did you swap the front wheel also?

DB Cooper

Tim,
I can hardly wait to try it out. All my bike buddies are pissed at me because now that my bike is ready, it's going to rain for sure.

FJMonkey,
A local dealer told me that the Dunlops are overall much wider than some of the other brands. My Pirelli Sport Demons were the same way. If I put my old 150/80 Pirelli up against my new Michelin 170/60, you can hardley see a diference in width!

Mark,
Again, thanks for all your help, I owe you! I'm still running the stock 17" x 3" wheel. I've been looking around for wider front wheel, but I think that will be next winters project. the next mod is a rear shock. As the saying goes, I'm not addicted to mods, I really can stop anytime....

Nice easy swap that. And the Road 2's will not disappoint.

nice job db  :good2: , what wheel did you use   (popcorn)
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods
( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne

Thanks!
The wheel and caliper from a '92 750, brackets and spacers from a ?? Bandit, axle and cushdrive from a 90 750.
As Craigo says in his write up, try and get all the parts from the same bike. The amount of grief it saves is worth the hunt!!!

Hey DB,

Glad that you got it all resolved. Man, you are going to love the way your FJ feels on the road with that new hoop. Since I put the Gixxer wheel on my bike, I no longer drag my toes on the ground. This is going to save me a fortune in boots as with the 16" wheel, I would bevel the outboard parts off. Now, I have to really pitch the bike over to start dragging hard parts.

I am sure that you have already noticed that she is much harder to get on the center stand. This can be corrected with new dog bones. Take a look at posts on these. I have yet to upgrade mine but should soon. I would like to just make them, but because of my limited knowledge of metal, and the critical function of the bones, well, I will leave that up to the experts.

BTW, I put a 170/60-17 Dunlop Roadsmart on my wheel. Getting close to about 4k miles and it's about done. I will replace with a different tire, more likely the matching Continental I have on the front. And yes, I will buy another 170/60.

Enjoy your new upgrade. I know you will.

So, the rain has held off and I had a chance to go out and give it a whirl. Wow, is all I can say. As the mold release is still a liitle fresh, I've been reluctant to push it very hard, but the "ramps" (see youtube linky at bottom) that are close to my house are so far, very entertaining. The turn in is way faster, a line is easier to hold, and the counter steer requires little to no effort at all. VERY happy so far.
Hey Craigo,
The PO ( a good buddy of mine) machined up a set of dogbones for the bike before I got it. If the weather holds, I'll be riding with him later today, I'll ask what type of metal he used, and the length and get back to you.
This is a video of the "ramps" another buddy did. It's a series of on/off ramps that intersect two major multi lane highways. Too bad they're all right handers, but it's only 4-5 minutes from my house. The ramps are nice way to start out on a ride, and then finish there on the way home. Theres also a Timmies at the end too that all the bikers hang out at (Timmies for the USA folks is coffee shop chain).
