Sorry, for a decent rally you have to have twisty roads.

If you took ALL of the twisty roads in Texas and put them together, you could ride them in probably 2 hours.  Not much of a rally.

Take a trip to North Carolina or even Arkansas to see what a rally location needs to have.

I'd feel really guilty talking a bunch of FJers into coming to Texas to ride 2-up in a Harley style parade formation in 120 degree heat.  I'd lose a lot of friends that way.  :-)

Hi David, actually it would take a couple weeks of full time riding to cover all of the twisty's in the Texas Hill Country. Plus ya get to meet a lot of interesting folks and visit some very interesting places. As far as (120 ?) heat I'am not talking about May through Sept. Certainly there should be quite a few FJ owners located here in Texas that would enjoy a local rally. I have been all over the US/Canada & Mexico riding/racing since 1966 and hear what ya say about other places, but sure there is something we can put together for the local scene of FJ owners to enjoy without having to go out of state.

The Texas Hill country has plenty of twisty roads and elevation changes West of Austin , North of San Antonio -Boerne, Comfort, Fredriksburg out even to Leaky. There are some beautifull state Parks and plenty of good roads not everywhere is flat and straight. If there were to be a rally here people would need to realize they were NOT going to those other places they would be coming here and might actually like a change in scenery. I for one would not be embarrassed to have anyone come here but as they say it's all about location, location, location.

You've got to attend a rally to know what I'm talking about and what these people expect for twisty roads.

I've ridden the Hill Country, Arkansas, and attended several East Coast rallies.  Texas doesn't have squat compared to the normal rally destinations.

Have you ever been to North Carolina or even Arkansas?  Texas roads don't even compare!  They're crap compared to just about everywhere else I've ridden in both quality of the road surface and the twisty fun factor.

The Rach-Tech guy comes to mind when he says "The best you've ridden is the best you know."

Meet me in Arkansas in June and I'll show you decent roads.   I've lived in Texas all my life and ridden bikes for 40+ years.  My first trip to NC was totally amazing.  I can't do justice trying to describe it, you gotta go and see/ride for yourself.

My main point is you invite a bunch of guys that are used to riding GOOD roads and put them on Texas roads, ... it just wouldn't be pretty.

If you're looking at a map of the roads on a typical twisty such as those in TN, or NC etc., they actually look as if they were drawn by an epileptic.  They are that twisty...

Just sayin...

Interesting subject Really. I had never attended a Rally till recently. Debate on Aussie Rally Planning priorities went from 80% social (20% Road Agenda) to the reverse. The great end result here tells me the right mix (for a first major Rally) is pretty near 50/50 integrated.  (Without counting the mandatory fire). I am aware of the different geography and ambassador Klavdy has verbally, strongly emphasised  how great the rides are in the U.S. (as only klavdy can - "The roads here are shit compared to over there") - While I know there`s a natural comraderie that make`s the best of what`s available, I can tell you there are many riders here and overseas that state the East Coast of Oz is motorbike heaven and I have no doubt that Texas could also be a great venue when hosted by locals. (Shit, overhere we see ya steaks advertised all tha time!) - If I was within fifteen hundred miles of the place, (maybe next year) I`d be there in a heartbeat anyhow. (my 2 and a bit cents worth - U.S.)  (popcorn)

I also have been riding for 30 + years starting in New York and now in Texas. I have driven and ridden all over this country from California to Maine. I have driven and ridden from Texas to New Hampshire more times than i can remember so Yes I do know what you are saying when you say there are better roads elsewhere. That being said if someone from Colorado went skiing in Vermont and expected the Rockies of course they would be disappointed but it doesn't mean they couldn't have a good time. If no official rally comes then maybe just those of us here in Texas can get together and enjoy what roads we do have.

I have family that live in Boerne I need to get out there for a long weekend and just go ridding to reacquaint myself with some of the actual road name/#'s. I have been out there in my alfa spider most recently and just drove around. I know how I go to get to the roads i like I just don't pay much attention to the map
