Foam replacement for side covers?

Hey, all, What kind of foam can I use to replace the foam on the inside of the side covers? Mine has disintegrated. My plan was to go down to the local guitar store & cut up some audio foam (I forget what they call it) & glue it to the side covers, but I don't want the stuff to melt.... Any other ideas?

What about weatherstripping -- if it comes in 1 inch width it may work ... plus it comes with its own adhesive

Thought about that, but Home Depot didn't have anything that thick... maybe I went on a bad day. I'll check again...

Hi Corey.

I used some leftover self adhesive car hood insulation,heat & fire resistant,I to cut it to shape and used 3 layers as its only 12mm thick.Did it about 5 years ago.Its held up well so far although its now redundant with the uni pod air filters installed.I assume the foam is only there to try and stop hot air off the engine getting into the air intakes on the stock air box.I wonder If anyone out there has made up some sort off cover for the uni pod filters for the same purpose,or is it not worth the effort?

Not sure about that, Jeff, although I'd like to know too. I just have the stock air box for now, so I'll definitely check into the hood insulation.

How about some pipe insulation - 1/2 in copper pipe insulation maybe cut in half.  Also, but I don't know where you can get it is I saw on a construction site some really thing duct insulation -- it came in large flat squares you could cut to size.  I used some scraps for a different application.

I know furniture makers have foam they use for chairs, etc.  they can usually cut it to fit also. I don't know how it would stand up to heat, maybe they would know.

I used some foam from an old couch pillow. It's been 3 years and no issues.   Maybe this suggestion could be listed in the "My wife would like to thank you..."  topic from a few weeks ago.
