OK folks - what replacement windshields are your running and by whom. What colors? What is your experience? I need to change my windshield on an ' 87.

Eagle Screen out of Australia.  I've had it for three years.  It's well made and sturdy and fairly scratch resistant.  I bought the 'Windlip' model and loved it at the beginning because it took the wind off my neck.  However after some time the buffeting noise got to me and I've cut it down a couple of inches, getting rid of most of the buffeting noise, but still directing the wind off my neck.

I've had a couple of these screens in the past. They're ok.  You have to drill your own holes so be sure and get the special drill bit.

I`ve made many inquiries over the last 2 years. Eagle and MRA get okay reports. I have the touring screeens on both my 93 models and they are awful. Wind tunnel tests show the FJ to be one of the worst models for turbulence. While the screens suffice for normal riding you will get Tinnitus if ya don`t wear earplugs. (you have been warned).

I have recently installed the bluetooth Sena communications system on my helmet - in addition to a wired in system that handled phone, GPS, music and CB radio through a Vox priority control.

The wired system always had problems over 80 klm/hr and I was reliably told the system works perfect on other bikes so it`s either the screen turbulence or the helmet.

So 2 weeks ago I installed SENA bluetooth system and found the same prob over 80klm/hr. But now I had the opportunity to test my helmet on a mates bluetooth system riding his Kawasaki ZZR. The result was near perfect communications up to 120klms/hrs, so proving my cruising communications prob is definateley the screen.

Arnie has added & designed a number of improving screen extensions that seem to work, though not tested on communications systems. I have just bought a GIVI screen from Ganboy as another experiment (they are not available any more).  I believe the main problem (apart from poor rib design on the tourer FJ screen) is distance back from the screen to the helmet which is probly why Arnies design works well as it bends towards the rider as speed increases.  (my 2 cents worth)   Doug

Yep, +1 on what Doug said.  I had the tall touring screen on my '84 for a long trip. It was terrible. The added wind noise was considerable. The buffeting was a pain in the neck (get it?)

Now, I'm back to stock on my '84.

A quiet helmet with a neck collar to seal the bottom (thanks Klavdy) good ear plugs, and my helmet in clean air is the best I've found....

so far...

Seems nice.
Speaking for myself, right now the OEM shield is giving me a lot of wind in my face, almost throwing me around at higher speeds. I'm about 6' 4'' and like to sit in a straight-up riding position. Thinking of the Eagle model with a windclip - but, looking at the above posts, it mightn't help the situation...? I've seen these discussions before around here, but haven't gotten to any conclusions rather than sticking with the OEM screen that I've got.

Although this may not answer your question regarding a replacement screen, it may be a good addition to one. My '92 FJ has a laminar lip on what I believe is the stock screen (was installed by the previous owner). The laminar lip acts as an air foil to increase the velocity of the air flow between the lip and the screen itself and by doing so it both raises and smooths out the air flow. The previous owner was a good 6'2" (or more) and it did well for him - also works well for my 5'9" frame. For more info go to: http://www.laminarlip.com/fj12.php. The image of the '92 at the top of the page is actually my FJ.

Hope that helps.

+1.
I bought the MRA Vario Touring screen from Twisted Throttle a couple of years ago....  The Lip on it is adjustable.. at its lowest setting it looks just like Zwartie's. I'm 5'8" ish, and if I put it up fully I get no wind at all.  It's great for the cooler weather when the wind is COLD.

FJ Flyer

I've got a smoked Targa screen, but it appears they are no longer available.  Yikes.

I like the Targa screen and my FJ fits one of this , and the MRA ones are thought and good too, but if today I have to buy one screen, I will buy from Godiva, in NZ. http://www.godiva.co.nz/ I bought one of their screens for my CBX 750 BolDor because they are the only in the world that made screen for this bike and it is a mix between the  resistant MRA and the excelent optics from the Targa ones
I bought it to this people:  http://www.japmcdismantlers.co.nz  Excelent service and cheap delivery cost, considering they was sending to the opposite side of the world, just on tthe antiphodae
