I have 2 new anti-diver units in the boxes.... :i_am_so_happy:
I think I heard that you have two new flintlock rifles, or was that you have two new stone axes?  New AD units? Where on this planet did you find NEW ones? Or are they just new to you? Just want to know. You must be holding very true to OEM original.... Them AD units were more hype than useful. Notice how the years after don't have them? If you are sticking to OEM original then Kudos to you. If you have new ones then why block them off? Or are we talking about the forks and not the AD units?  :empathy3:

I wish they were flint locks... then they would be useful
But I do have 2 new ones in the boxes off of ebay
I switched to a FZR front end but seeing that these were as hard to get and as useful as buggy whips I bought them
Pictures coming soon.... yawn
If it's not broken, fix it anyways

I am good with that, as you were...
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Sooo, for us non-Luddites is there a source for AD block off plates?

racerman_27410

if you remove the tapered spindle (flower pot looking thing) from the bottom of the damper rod then you can just use plain flat plates bolted onto the fork legs with some sealant.

you have to take the forks apart to remove the tapered spindle.

if you dont remove the tapered spindle then you have to use a block off plate that has channels machined in it for the oil to flow out and back into the fork legs.

there used to be someone who made these special plates but its been a long time and i cant find his information.

The price sucks and I don't see how the two ports allow fluid to pass. Thus causing hydraulic lock of the forks. The upper and lower ports need to permit fluid to pass freely with the plates in place. If they allow the fluid to pass then I will just settle on the price sucking.

My guess is the ports don't allow fluid to pass but possibly they go over some protruding metal.  I haven't taken mine off to know but SanDimas Mike would know ....lets get Mikey ...ya lets get Mikey .... he knows everything

racerman_27410

there is no protruding metal at the anti dive mounting location.... just two o -rings

Looking close at those ebay block off plates, looks like they are gun drilled from the bottom and then blocked off - so should pass fork oil and work with no issues.

I cuncur with fj1289. There is a hole drilled from the bottom and plugged so the oil will pass through just as the listing says.

One question. If I have installed Race Tech gold valves in the forks in my 86, would the oil still have to pass through? If not, I would think one could just make solid plates to block off the holes.

were the holes in the damper rod drilled out and additional holes drilled above the bottoming cone/ tapered spindle?   if so then you may be able to get by with flat plates.

Ah grasshopper my block offs do not allow fluid to pass. I installed my block offs when I had emulators installed. This mod does require that circuit. Could not find the person that made the plates. He use to participate in this site which is how I found him. He did not charge as much as the eBay option, but the eBay version looks a little better. When time comes to service the shock I will see about getting mine  beautified. I know I know I should get do a whole front end mod.

Yes, the holes in the damper rod were enlarged and the holes added per the instructions from Race Tech. I am a machinist, so I will make my own block off plates. If I don't need an oil passage, flat plates are simpler to make.

read my post left out key word. Should say mod (emulators) does NOT require this fluid circuit.
