SanDimas Mike got some recently. Big block like chunks of aluminum. Better to upgrade to 89+ forks, even better to put emulators in them.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Don't the springs fit all years on the FJ? Just different spacer sizes....

I think I heard that you have two new flintlock rifles, or was that you have two new stone axes?  New AD units? Where on this planet did you find NEW ones? Or are they just new to you? Just want to know. You must be holding very true to OEM original.... Them AD units were more hype than useful. Notice how the years after don't have them? If you are sticking to OEM original then Kudos to you. If you have new ones then why block them off? Or are we talking about the forks and not the AD units?  :empathy3:

I noticed how only the 86 and 87 have aluminum gear shift arms and rear brake pedals. Yamaha also did away with the remote preload adjuster. Later fork lowers do not have a drain screw. Swingarms were pressed steel, unvented brake rotors etc. Yamaha was saving a buck. And I agree that the AD units were a period fad....every Japanese manufacture was putting them on bikes.

So, why are we blocking off the anti dive units? Sorry if that's a silly question. hoping the "newbie" label gets me some slack:)

For some it is just removing equipment (the AD units and hoses) that don't not work and reduce un-sprung weight (slight performance increase in suspension reaction). Others do this when they put emulators in to upgrade the forks. I am ditching the 86' forks for 89' forks so I can get a 17" x 3.5" wheel and run modern rubber. This also allows me to put on blue dot calipers with a 14MM master and have better braking as well.

Some members really like keeping their bikes bone stock, or at least making changes that allow easy changes to get it back to stock. Block off plates fit in this category. Bolt them back on and the bike is stock again.

My 90 has the steel rear brake, yes, but definitely a remote adjustment on the shock preload as well as the drain screw.  If that's a steel swingarm, it's stainless, as a magnet doesn't stick to it, also.

Just because it's newer than the 86-87, doesn't mean that it was from the "giving up" era.

Good info thanks.I clearly have a g react deal to learn about FJ,s. I read that these bikes tend to have soft forks. I was going to use a little heavier fork oil for now. My first goal is to get her on the road. Them tweak as I go. Beware of scope creep my grandpa always said,)

That is what I did with my 87 though I use a 5/8" master from old ZX-7 and Speigler full floating rotors. It looks much cleaner than the original forks. I have a set of Brembo calipers sitting on a shelf (I ran a full Brembo set up with the original 16" wheel)...maybe I'll install them. I also have an AP adjustable ratio master on the same shelf but it looks like it will not clear the fairing at full lock. http://www.apracing.com/info/products.asp?product=Pull+Type+Adjustable+Ratio+Master+Cylinders-Variable+Ratio+Type+-+CP4125+Family_2549_1094   I also have a new 14mm master that I'm going to try this summer.

Really like the so lever set up,I'm site it would work, hell I'd make sire it cleared the fairing,
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods
( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne
