clutch master cylinder sight glass

I recently bought a used clutch master cylinder.  I noticed that the sight glass is located in a different position than my 84 1100 master cylinder. On the used piece I bought, the sight glass is on the left side of the reservoir as viewed from the front. My original from my 84 has the sight  glass located on the right side of the reservoir as viewed from the front.  Did 84 have 2 different clutch master cylinders or is the one I bought not an 84?
