I need a set of mirrors for my 84 1100.  In the picture gallery I saw both original mirrors and fairing mounted. The fairing mounted looks a lot cleaner, IMO.  Is fairing mounted wide enough to see behind without moving shoulder or arm?  Are fairing mirrors noisier?  Any mounting problems?  Is there more or less mirror vibration with fairing mounted mirrors?  What would you suggest for a nice pair [brand/model]?  I found original style from a place called Niche Cycle Supply.  $20/apiece so price is good.  Original are available from Yamaha at $76/ apiece and have to be ordered from Japan so will take a while, I assume.

Stock FJ fairing mounted mirrors are to narrow.
Alot of us have adapted Honda CBR1000 mirrors to  see beyond our shoulders.

Try out the CRG arrows as bar end mirrors, you will be pleasantly surprised. Large, great vibration control amd clear views,  lots of adjustablity and great workmanship. It is very easy to transition to bar end mirrors although most people seem a bit scared to try as it is something new.

I use Emgo aftermarket mirrors on my '84.  I can see fine behind me with them and don't think they are too narrow at all.

Far better than I have on my 85.I have a set of those but both mounts are busted.
I need some new mounts for mine,if any one has some let me know please.

i had bar-end mounted mirrors on my FJ12 for a while, the stick out further than your elbows and leave the fairing mirror-less and looking cleaner. TBF i only ran one but i felt i could see well enough. But that's just me

hi, i like the extra lights you have , are they led ?  how much clearance do you have at full fork compression

I chose the that location because it uses the exsisting windshield mounting screws - that way it wasn't a total bust if they didn't work out.  I wish I could find something OEM for better finish (They have a rubber flexable boot that looks a little cheesy), but they work well enough.

They are halogen and have an amber hue.  I don't ride at night much so I use them to keep me conspicous during daytime hours mostly.  I only found out lately that they touch the fender under compression    They haven't damaged the fender and I don't acutally hear any clunks etc... only a mark on top of my fender.  But I should take the time to correct it...

thought they may go close, like the look of them , should of done that with mine before i changed fairings

I've used Emgo 00-03 GSXR mirrors on both my '85 FJs. Part # is 20-69721 and 20-69721. Some dis-assembly and re assembly was required to raise the stalks above the grips so that they wouldn't hit at full lock. Thus, left stalk moved to the right mount, right stalk to the left mount.  Each mount uses the rear mount hole of the window screen, and then I've drilled a new hole through the fairing for the second mounting bolt. Button head socket cap screws fit flush inside the mount. Inside the fairing, you need to trim away a bit of a reinforcement rib so that a flat washer can be installed before a nylok nut. Lastly, loosen the stalk screws so that there is enough friction to prevent the mirrors from folding in at "high" speed", but forgiving enough to move if you hit the mirror. It saves strain on the fairing. I like the look and visibility to the rear is good. If you carry baggage across the rear of your seat though, visibility can be reduced.
