Dunno if anyone else receives these e-mails from DDM Tuning.  I found this particular e-mail to be very useful in showing the differences between colors and styles of LED replacement lamps.

Choosing the Right LED

The above images were taken using the OEM 1156 bulb and our 1156 HP-18 Bulbs behind a red lens.

Buy the LEDs in the same color as the colored lens of the light you are installing it in. If the lens is red, buy a red LED.
If the lens is amber, buy an amber LED, etc. If your lens color is clear, buy the LED in the color you wish for the LED to display when lit.
For instance, taillights and brake lights generally use red LEDs even with a clear lens.  Clear turn signals would use an amber LED.

It's also important to select an LED that produces the desired viewing angle.

Turn Signal Bulbs shown in image above are:
1.  CX19: 19 x 3028 (forward facing LEDs, 76 Lumens, 120 degree viewing angle)
2.  HP18: 18 x 5050 SMD (15 side mounted and 3 forward facing LEDs, 216 Lumens, 360 degree viewing angle)
3.  ZR60: 60 x 3528 SMD (48 side mounted and 12 forward facing LEDs, 240 Lumen, 360 degree viewing angle)
4.  3W: 3 x 1W SMD (forward Facing LEDs, 150 Lumens, 170 degree viewing angle)
