Clutch bleeding

Difficulty bleeding clutches seems a regular topic here. My turn finally came last week strarting with everything dry. As I've read countless times, could not start process by pumping lever so I put about a metre of clear plastic tubing over the open bleeder nipple, filled the reservoir and sucked on the tube (poor mans pressure bleeder). 2 sucks and I had about a foot of lovely, clean, bubble free fluid in the tube, closed the nipple, topped up the reservoir, done and dusted! Took less than a minute all up.

Excellent idea with a few mods.

*Fit 2 litre reservoir
*Replace brake fluid with beer
*Increase hose diameter
*Keep sucking

Tried this in the shop today.  Belched up 14 ml. Will adjust fill level next time.

Seriously, I will be filling a dry front brake system soon, so will try this technique.  Even acquired a "Y" fitting so I can suck from both caliper bleeders at once.  Thanks for the idea.  Will be asking the wife to assist with the procedure.

I may have topped it up, I don't remember. But it's not a biggy, you're standing right next to it, just keep an eye on it (lid off while bleeding) and don't let it run dry.

Thanks Ribbert-  I will do that. The long hose is the key there so one can stand and keep and eye on things.
