Thanks Paul for the detailed route map, should be a great run to Bethel. just a suggestion but I would love to ride to the coast during our weekend, possible destination to Portland Maine to see the Atlantic ocean. If we cant fit that in the schedule its ok, looks like lots of great riding ahead.

The campground is about a two hour ride to Portland. The two loops we have used are to the northeast and the southwest. The roads leading to  Portland become slow and busy the closer you get to the ocean. There was talk the first year about going to the coast for lobster, but it would just be a slow parade. I'm not sure were we could find the 4-5 hours to get there and back. If you really wont to make it happen, a couple of us could go to Portland and meet back up with the group at lunch in Rangley Me. It would be a long day in the saddle, but it is doable.

We should be back on Saturday by five. It's about four hours to Bar Harbor, so we could be eating lobster by nine. That gets us back around 2 am.

    No problem .....................................

Sorry... No offense intended. Humor doesn't always travel well over the internet. The truth is if someone really wanted to take the ride, I would probably be willing to take the lead. I have a family camp on a lake in Elsworth Maine, about twenty minutes from down town Bar Harbor. I have spent lots of time riding in the area. The park roads are fun when the tourists are gone.

I live 3 mi from the Atlantic if you want to see it. 30 mi from portland, if you want lobster let me know a friend I race with owns a brew pub in n conway NOT FAR AWAY he could cook lobsta for you.

If anyone might want to watch FJ powered race cars I may/will go racing sat night. :sorry: My customers kid needs to race. It's about a 1.5 hours away (Star raceway) I plan on doing most of sat ride then leaving to go to the race track if anyone wants to go.

Bar harbor is a bit of a trip but FJs can get it done

no need to be a dick

On this forum there are dicks, assholes, cunts, boobs, and boneheads. Glenn is none of those. (That I know of... :bomb:)

The coast ride (and lobster) has been brought up each previous rally. The coast ride goes down in flames due to the horrible summer traffic. Rte 1 is a parking lot full of people from hell. Anyone who as experienced it will avoid it. The lobster is more likely to work, but didn't get off the ground due to lack of enthusiasm. What ever happened to the BBQ lobster idea?

Fellers-

I'm in Ohio, better than 800 miles from Bethel.  I really want to make this rally, but July is packed full of stuff that I want to do - Vintage Motorcycle Days, Wauseon Vintage flat track, etc.  However, those don't fall on the same weekend as the NEFJR.  Would it piss anybody off if I showed up unannounced?  I'd pack a tent so no special accomodations needed.  Got new tires yesterday, just gotta get them mounted.  Fresh oil change and I'd be ready to go. Problem is I can't confirm I'll be there.  Also, I have a funny accent - if a word has the letter "R" in it, I say it. And, although I like muskrat, coon and groundhog, never took a likin' to lobster (not enough butter in Ohio to make it taste good).  And my FJ is kinda ugly.

Seriously, sounds like a good time and a good crowd.  Really want to do it.  And if I do come, where'd be a good place in NY to stop for the night?  Would have to take the throughway to make good time.  Might be I could make Vermont in one day.  The joints are getting old though.  The more I read these posts and think about it, and the more beer I drink, the more I figure I gotta do this.  Seems the wife is dying to get rid of me for another weekend, too.

This is a pretty loose group, so just showing up is no problem. There is plenty of room and supplies. Down town Bethal is just ten minutes away and has the basics. I can't help as far as a place in NY, but my experience traveling through is there are lots of campgrounds.
I hope you can make it, the more the merrier. Trust me , you want be the only one with an accent.............

Thanks, RACER.  If I make the trip I'll probably Motel 6 it on the way over.  Don't want to have to wait for a tent to dry before I leave in the morning.  What I should have asked is are there any places I should avoid for an overnight stay in eastern NY / western Vermont.  Would sleeping on a picnic table at a rest area be a no-no?  I've been known to do that.  However, times have changed since the last time I did - and come to think of it the last time I did it I woke up with ants crawling in and out of my mouth.  And the reason I woke up was because the guy who maintained the rest area was kicking my boot to ask me to please get my bike out from under the picnic shelter and leave.  Yup, would definitely be a motel.

To the new guys.........you are going to be far more impressed with either of the two loops we have, than you will be riding to the ocean.

Maybe you guys should ask last years new rally attendees, Paul and Dan, how disappointed they were with the ride and scenery before assuming

you want to see the ocean.  The rally is only 2 days it's impossible to see it all, but what we have planned is some of the best riding and sights around.

You may have to trust the locals a little bit here, you won't be disappointed.

If interest in the rally continues to grow maybe we can add a 3rd day next year making it possible to ride to the coast one day.

But I would want 5 or 6 people to commit before reserving the campground an extra day. It seems hard enough for people to come for 2 days, as we have a few guys that only show up for 1 day each year.
