Ok so I took Friday and Saturday off this year. So I will be leaving early Friday morning and arrive in Maine early afternoon (my guess). Can't wait to see everyone. Now we just have to hope for nice weather.

Bob

Regrettably, I will not able to come to Maine this summer.
The previous two NESR trips have been highlights of my riding season.
Have a blast, ride spirited & safe, and come back with some good stories.

Hopefully I'll get my act together and will see you all again in 2013.

Hello to the NESR rally group, I am Andrew K. from Northern Ontario and would like to join this years ride. I had picked up a neglected, black 1990 FJ in September, rebuilt it over the winter and now enjoying every KM (mile). Many Yamahas in the past but this is one of the best all round rides. Thanks to Paulfj03 for all his info, links and parts to help with this project. He had also mentioned the North East Rally, did some research and looks like I'm hooked. Other riders were saying the Vermont Hwy#2 is a must ride. Told to ask Dan if I could reserve the available trailer bunk, if its still available, if not then I have my tent ready to go. I would be riding Thurs. from home to Ottawa, then hooking up with the Kingston group Fri. morning for the border crossing at Hwy#416/#401. Looking forward to the great FJ adventure.

Hey Andrew,

Excellent!!  Welcome to the club here.  You just may have the record for the longest ride to the NESR 2012! I would guess 13 to 14 hours???
Have you figured out how many kms??

It will be a great time.  The riding in the mountains is an awesome experience.

I like that colour scheme of your 1990. Nice!  If you can, ..... post a picture, or 2, of it.

The 401-16 junction (Johnstown) should be a great spot to hook up with us.  We take 16 south across the border. Perfect. Then we will continue and pick up more posse members . We should hit Bethel like a bomb!

Well it was a great Canada Day, we did a 6 hour ride today towards Ottawa area, tried out the new soft saddle bags, good test run to see how secure they were, got caught in the pouring rain which tested the new leathers, all riding gear working great.
- Believe it or not I met up with some harley riders from MAINE! They were heading west to Sault st Marie, crossing south to Millwaki to see the Harley Museum. I told them about the FJ Rally to Maine, they suggested we MUST ride the 'Kanga mangus' hwy. through White Mountain Park. Hopefully this is on our list of places to ride while we are there.
- Question about the fuel mileage on the FJ, I had riden 174 miles (275km), the red low fuel light was on but needle still above empty, if it runs out and I switch to reserve , how many more miles or kilometers is available on reserve?
- Rough calculation for my trip would be 1000 km (600 miles) from home to the campground at West Bethell, have to remember to bring the Tylenol.

It is, and there are better roads than that one too :yahoo:

The Kangamangus has been on the route for the last two years, and I'm guessing we will do it again. It is a nice road, but very busy , as it goes through a national forest. Like Bob says, there are some better roads on the rally.  I've eliminated the reserve switch on my '86 , and I get about 200 miles when the fuel light starts flickering. That is typically about 4.2-4.3 gallons to top it back up. The tank holds 5 ish gallons. Many people just leave it on "reserve"  because the bike will just stop running with out warning when it's time to switch it. This can be dangerous at the wrong time.

That's not bad. My return trip last year that looped north of Lake Champlain and crossed over to the 401 at Prescott was about 800km (to Whitby). Left around 7am and got home by 5:30pm. It was crazy hot; I dumped a cold bottle of water into my 'stich at each stop.

Having the overnight stay in Kingston on the way down was great. I think we started around 8:30am. Took the ferry to Wolfe Island, then took a scenic route to the ferry from from Port Kent to Burlington. That trip, with the lots of rain, got us to the campground around 7:30pm. I liked the roads we took, but with the rain the trip was a bit long. You may want to skip the ferry and take the north route.

My personal longest day was the return trip from Boone in 2008. 1200km in one day, from 7am to 9:30pm. Sun, wind, hail, rain, sore butt... and a big grin.

It's getting closer. Be nice if a couple of the Mass guy's would come up. The more the merrier.
