There's many on the site now, far more than in the past.
This is good, means people are interested in keeping these great bikes and community going.
This is a well put together site with terrific resources and an easy user interface, you can upload and download pics and docs, lot's of things.

One problem though, this all costs money.

Surprised?

Thought it was, just, like, the innerwebz or something?

It costs to have servers and web hosting and all the rest of it, you'll see some of us have donated to the site, but a hell of a lot haven't.
So, how about doing the right thing you welching slackers and tip some money into it?

Marsh, just to throw in a thought here on this subject. Would there be any value to have a club funds meeter that lets us know when the kitty is low? With as many active members here I am sure the donation size need not be large or often to keep the cost out of the Red. Or maybe some guide lines for to use when donating to keep the balance sheet balanced.

Klavdy, what is the ratio of contributing members vs. non? Not asking to rat anyone out, just curious.

I am sure everyone has noticed...What is unique here, is that there is no advertising, other than what our members post for sale.

Once and a while a couple of companies sneak thru and want to sell us sex toys but Klavdy handles (!) those offenders.

Marsh could easily, very easily, make money on this site, but he doesn't and he won't. That's the type of guy he is.
I don't know how many hundreds of hours of his professional time he spent building and continually improving this playhouse.

This place has got to cost him money. Got to...File servers/memory ain't free.  How much?  Hell I don't know.  I'm a moderator and he won't even tell me.

Klavdy has got a good ear to the ground. If he asks for money, there is a reason.

Thanks Pat, that put some polish on it.

Klavdy, thanks for the reminder. I contributed a few years back and it was time to kick in again. I now consider myself a reformed "welching slacker".

I made my donation. Partially due to FJMonkey and his helpfulness/generosity and also to the general great attitude of the folks on this site.

I recently bought an 87 1200 and I know I'm going to need help and will have questions.

If you've been lurking on FJOwners and have gained knowledge from the members, you should kick in some bucks. "Ain't nothin free"

In fact there is not much business if there are no publicity, I know very good. Near everyday I answer to someone that visit my web and mail me about FJ questions. Too many answers and few donations. For me it is a hobby and I think that if I can help someone to fix a problem, there will be always anyone that solve me a problem about any question in the future.

Want to see who has donated to the cause and who are the ones enjoying the free ride?  Just click on this link and all will be answered:

So we all know who is and who is not and how much use they get out of this site.  Great transparency

What Klavdy said......
This forum made it possible for me to restore & maintain my FJ
The friendship and support of the members here helped me thru what was the darkest period of my life.
So cough up a few bucks & don't be a bludger!
I've often been asked, 'What do you old folks do now that you're retired'?

"Well. I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch, and margaritas into urine."

I tried posting this earlier but it did not go through.

I have no idea how much it costs to operate this site but I can imagine its not cheap and is very time consuming. Since I have no computer skills I have no problem contributing money instead. This forum has provided me with a wealth of info and a great source of humour.
Perhaps the time has come to charge an annual user fee much like an annual subscription fee to a magazine. Those that don't want to support the site can leave and set up their own site. Good luck. With a current membership of 1884 losing a few non supporters and non contributors doesn't bother me a bit.
Let's put it in perspective. Most members probably subscribe to at least a couple of magazines or at least a newspaper. This material for the most part ends up in the recycle bin. Probably most of us also go to a bar once in a while. This, after going through the kidneys, is also lost forever. The info on this site stays and is always available. Which is the better deal?
Information is the most fundamental tool and tools cost money.     Hein.
