From 1984- 1990, the swing arms were aluminium, correct?
Why the change to steel in 1991?

Just wanting a discussion on the benefits of one over the other.
Was the FJ getting too heavy for an aluminium swing arm, or was it just a cost thing?

Please add your thoughts on the subject.

Because they figured that anyone who would ride a bike with a pink stripe on it wouldn't know the difference.      :bomb:

Cruel Randy......you'll keep!......

I believe it was more a cost cutting exercise.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.

Heh, I thought so... but sometimes these days, you just don't know for sure.

I did know for sure I'd hear from you on that one, though.

I agree with Harvy... pink paint is probably cheaper.      :i_am_so_happy:

How can anyone that rides around on a PINK motorcycle be sensitive?  :-)

It's good to know that the pink stripe has such a bearing on most Every aspect of the latest and greatest generation of the FJ.
I truly feel sad for those of you that are without!

No worries Randy, you should know me well enough by now to know that I'm secure with my "pinkness"! LOL!

Thanks Harvey, the thought of cost savings on Yamahas part seems like the most likely.

By the way, I just received a VERY nice 1989 aluminium swing arm.
I know this is not a high tech mod, like something Pat has done, but when it's done it will have the same blinding qualities.

Pictures will follow as progress is made.

You could always send it in for some additional bracing, etc.

BTW, if ever run out of stuff to polish, my offer still stands...
