I'm using the FJ Mod sitre as my basis, http://www.fjmods.btinternet.co.uk/Wheels.htm and have had the crush drive and spacer machined as outlinede in the article, but I am having problems getting things to fit correctly.
I have cut down the inner part of the wheel for clearance, but still can not get the modded spacer to make contact with the LH inner wheel bearing.
I'm at a lose and need your help.

Thanks,
Leon

Did you cut down the rubber cushdrives ? Did you cut them from the correct side? They should be cut from the side that contacts the cushdrive hub not the inner wheel side. Insert the cushdrive hub onto the wheel without the rubbers and see if the spacer contacts the bearing. If it does the rubbers are the problem. If there is no contact between the spacer and the bearing the either the spacer was machined too short or the carrier was not machined properly. Check that the area around the bearing housing in the wheel has sufficient clearance. Measure twice cut once.  Hein
What do you mean, you don't have a lathe?

Thanks.
Yes, the cush rubbers are cut down below the level of the cush drive dogs, which were cut the required 5 mm.
The rubber was removed from the side facing away from the wheel.

The spacer was cut to 13mm on the larger diameter side of the spacer, the side that faces the wheel, as specified vin the link.
It appears to be about 5 mm until the spacer can touch the inner spacer.
It also seems to be contacting around the bearing housing, but there are no clear pictures or procedures to mod this are.

All that the link makes clear to me, is that the spacer needs to be in contact with the inner wheel spacer, and NOTHING else.

I just want to be sure where I need to cut.

Measure twice and cut once is great advice...but without being VERY clear as to WHERE the cuts are needed, it's kinda hard to get the correct measurements.

Thank you for the help, I appreciate it .

If the spacer is contacting the bearing housing before it can contact the bearing inner race then you will have to carefully trim the bearing housing area. Place some putty, play do or something like that on the bearing housing area, slide the axle through the wheel from the brake side and then slide the cush drive unit over the axle and into the wheel. Push it down fimly and remove. Now you should be able to see where the spacer is contacting. If the problem is the casting of the wheel bearing housing you'l have to remove some material from here. Options are, use a milling machine with a flycutter or die grinder. If you'r really careful you can leave the bearing in but mask it well to prevent contamination or pop a new bearing in after the surgery. If it was me I'd replace both wheel bearings anyways at this stage of the game. This would also allow you to powdercoat or paint the wheel and start off with fresh bearings and peace of mind.  Hein
