I really like to ride my '89 FJ. I have 3 other bikes and their total milage for this year is less than the FJ. I really like my FJ, but I HATE plastic bikes. Once again the tab for the right front directional signal broke. Once again on a friday before a beautiful riding weekend. This time I decided that I would fix it the right way by taking off the fairing. So I put the tab and the screw in a little plastic bag, labeled it correctly put it in a box of FJ parts. Then I taped, with shiny black electrical tape, the lens on both sides so they look the same and I said out loud to myself, to the bike and to anyone listening (no one was ); "I will fix this the right way the next time I have the fairing off the bike." Eventually I may have to take the fairing off and when I do I will fix that tab.
Thanks for listening,
Anson

Anson,
I feel your pain! I had 2 loose front indicator lights on my 90. Pulled the fairing off this past spring, I only had 1 piece of the plastic tabs that holds the steel clip for the screws. I ended up doubling over a small piece of 24 ga. sheet metal, cut it to width (about 5/16" wide) to fit in between the reinforcing ribs of the mount for the indicator assembly. I bent it in an L shape and epoxyed it in place  to the fairing. Then I now had a new tab to drill a hole in to screw the indicator assembly to. Didn't take any pictures of that part of the project. It's pretty self explanitory once you look at it. Especially if you are as cheap as me!

Thanks Joe,
I'll get around to it, maybe this winter. We get a lot of "off road" time up here, about 5-6 months depending. One year winter went right up to June. If I get too lazy my Harley friends let me know. Heck they are the reason I have a windshield. I prefer the ride without one, but the bike looks like an unfinished project. And it is.

Anson,
Understand about "off-road" time. We lived in north central Wyoming for 9 years. We had plenty of time, snow and land for sleds. Here in Arkansas, I don't put up the bike for the winter, you can usually get in several rides before spring returns. BTW, welcome to the group!
