 Ok.......I've hit a bit of a wall here and I am hoping someone can help  :mail1:
I am near the end of my front and rear mod but am having trouble with the rear. I have attempted to marry an 02 FZ1 rear wheel with the 97 T-ace swingarm. Everything was looking good until I put the tire hugger on and found it rubbing against the tire (right side with quite a bit of play on the left side). The spacing we used, put the tire centre with the swing arm but the chain is off line . I used the 18 tooth Honda VF1000 front sprocket(shoulder in and machined flush on the outside side) but still doesn't want to line up  :ireful: ... the other issue being the tire hugger....... seems to be resting against the rubber on the right side :dash2:. If I have to take shit apart....I would rather that and get it right than wrong.......all input is welcome......  :dash1:. I am wondering if the wheels (the 02 FZ1 and 97 T-ace) are different widths and spacing needs to be done to both the rear sprocket as well as the rear brake disc ?????? There deffinitely seems to be a spacing issue here and I am at a loss

I believe both the 02 FZ1 and 97 YZF1000 used a 17x5.5 wheel.  Don't know if they have an offset though.

Being the same size doesn't preclude them from having the brake or sprocket surface at different distances from centerline.

thats what I m thinking.....that the centre hubs are different widths........I am hoping someone will know the answer to that...... :wacko3:

That was the beauty of the T-ace Rittner conversion.
The entire rear assembly was the oem T-Ace. Wheel, spacers, axle, rotor, swing arm was all oem stock.
No dicking around with spacers, measurements,etc, all the work was already done by Mark.
The T-ace rim ('97 YZF1000) is 5.5" wide. The Pyramid Plastics hugger is centered in the T-ace swing arm with a slight rub on the right side... depending on tire.
The Avon's rubbed, with the Michelin Road 2's there's no rub... both 180/55-17 in size..

Which I conclude, it's all about the tire....some do, some don't...

When I put the 92' GSXR 750 rear wheel on I took accurate measurements with equipment at work. The 86' wheel has the hub centered with the rim, the GSXR is offset about 0.45 inches. Had I not been my normal paranoid self my rear wheel would not be centered behind the front. Get some rigid piece of steel or aluminum that can rest across the rim and pass over the hub. Measure the distance on both sides. This will give you a great point to reference as you will need the rim centered in the swing arm, not necessarily the the hub. Then get the chain aligned and other bits fall in after the chain. Now I need to get busy and find the hugger LAMike has and get one for myself.

Paddy....Frankie....Monkey and Andy.........thank you for addressing my dilemma.......I was probably over reacting a bit........this mod has taken exactly 9 months......and I seem to be having trouble delivering...... CanD is my Baby....and I want everything perfect :mail1:. I am hearing around the horn that the huggers can tend to rub without adjustment...and depending on rubber.....Paddy...thank you !!  :good2:....and Frankienberry.....you are the coolest monster.....count Chocula has notin on you baby!! :rofl2:...always am happy to hear your words of encouragement.......Monkey man........you still need to let me know what you did with that honey at your side at some rally you posted pics of........what a taco.... :dash2:..thx for the info..Andy......thx for your help...... After going over everything.....the wheel is centred......brakes line up very well.......except frankies rear brake switch issue needs addressing now......and the chain is lined up...but is not perfect.......I have bought a special offset 18 tooth front sprocket for an FJ Drag bike and when it arrives......I will cut it to fit perfectly........stay tuned....the turbo will be going on very soon.......will be doing it over the winter.....
I will post everything probably by the weekend along with the photos and details.....I hope... (popcorn)

And the Dunlop Roadsmart 180/55-17 as well as the Battlax 016 do not rub either...  plus the hugger just looks f'ing cool!

Interesting Kev.....would suggest to me that the T-ace and FZ1 wheels do indeed have different hub offsets.

I used FZ1 wheel in FZ1 arm.......all lined up perfectly...... used the machined Honda front sprocket - the only thing I had to do was flip the rear sprocket to move the teeth 2 or 3 mm further inboard for near on perfect alignment.

Would guess that a t-ace wheel in a t-ace arm would give similar result.

Don't know if anyone else has tried your mix and match approach, but I'm sure it will only be a minor amount of modifying to get it all to work.

I purchased my hugger form a maker in Portugal - was advertised for FZ1 swingarm.... fitted perfectly but was undrilled for bolt holes. Once fitted it gives same clearance to tyre either side for Michelin Pilot Road, Conti Road Attack, and at the moment Dunlop D208 180x50s.


Guess that's the beauty of diy mods..... you get to trail blaze!

Hi Harv..... :biggrin:....it's been a while..... nice to see you....hope all is well with you......this crossover has made it a challenge......I loved the Fz1 rims and front fender..........and loved the T-ace rear end........so away I went........wheels were the same dimensions from what I have been reading.......but it appears that the centre hubs are slightly different.......from what I can tell so far.....looks like the T-ace hub is wider by several mm's....maybe even more so on the sprocket side......all the T-acers who modded have all said the same thing....to turn the rear sprocket in to help line up with the Honda front sprocket........but when I tried that with the FZ1 rim, it brought the chain in against the tire (Michelin Pilot). Going to space it until I get it...in fact I have purchased an fj 1100 offset sprocket for a drag bike......will cut it to fit once it arrives.....thx for the input Harv........great to hear from you.....I will start a Gallery once I have it done.......and once I figure out how to post a gallery......well off to sleep.......ttyl
