Does anyone know if an XJR12/1300 collector box will fit my 86 FJ1200 1TX , wondering if anyone has tried this and if its ok it will be far cheaper than the specific fitment ...I heard that a lot of parts are compatible...maybe the whole XJR exhayst sytem ?

the XJR exhaust system will work with some modifications.... unfortunately the chin fairing will not fit when using the XJR header pipes as they have a different shape at the lower turn.

Eric  got a stainless steel collector box off ebay that looks pretty nice and is an exact replacement.... cant remember the brand though..... maybe Delkavic or something like that.

When you say the chin fairing do you mean the lower plastic cover over the exhausts , im not too worried about that as i can modify to fit or make one . My collector box has some rust holes that i have patched up but the box needs to be replaced soon .

The XJR collector is the same as all model FJs. I have a XJR collector & silencers on my '92:

I am using the some aftermarket stainless downtubes from Sandybikesspares in the UK.  They will not allow the chin fairing without modifying it a bit.  I also have the Delkavic stainless collector box- it works great but cannot be used with the heat shields it comes with if you are using the chin fairing....

Pre '04-ish XJR muffler/bracket set up is the closest match to FJ...

XJR muffler mounting pick up point changed by virtue of an updated rear foot peg bracket design about 04 onwards that'll make adaptation/fitment more awkward but still do-able, and the collector box is the same all the way through to 06-ish.

As mentioned in other answers, Delkevic stainless replacement box is a very nice piece but there is another manufacturer over your neck of the woods that does a fabricated thicker walled pipe collector as a direct fit replacement that looks like it'd flow better than the original or Delkevic type... Search it on e-bay UK it comes up occasionally but not continually all the time...

07 onward XJR is 4 into 1 catalytic converter, don't even go there...
Nitrous is nice but I'd rather be blown.

When these bikes were made i doubt if anyone had heard of catalytic converters , wont be going that route  :good:
Even the xjr`s collector box is quite pricey , i am still looking but maybe now wait till i see a compatible 4 into 1 system that comes up for grabs for the price of the collector box alone  :good2:

Thanks westoz

I see Delkevic USA has a collector box that is 86 fj specific and it is 129.50 or so
