Went for a ride this aft. and my tach started to only go to about 3 thou. When I start the bike it will go to about 2 with the choke on and then settle down to 1100 with the choke off. I take off down the road and it will fluctuate from 2 t0 3 thou. sometimes it will work properly, but not very often. Bad connection maybe? Or something else, any ideas guys. Thanks big r.

Yep, a bad connection. Your tack is driven off your right side coil (#2-3) with emery cloth, clean those connections at the coil (inc. ground)  Pat

Thanks Pat. I guess I will have to take the tank off for that, not looking forward to that. Last time I had the tank off I had a shit of a time making sure the fuel line was right.

Nope haven't had the fairing off yet. Looks fairly intimidating to me, but I will try anything once and if I have any real problems I will just have to call on my brother. He is a handy type guy, he just rebuilt the driveshaft on his BMW GS 100, put new u-joints in, bmw wanted 742$ for one. Thanks for your input guys. big r

Hey Big R,
Wondering if you made any progress. I have had the same prob since the WCR. Not serious enough of an issue for me to make time for yet. With a busy summer winding down I will play with it soon. Hoping it ain't the tach. I probably would not replace it unless a bargain appeared.
