okay so my battery is fully charged and its a good battery. my battery charger stays on it cause i run it dead alot

I had recently taken off the left handle bar switch just to clean it up a little and what not, put it back on and connected everything back up. When i did this and turned the bike(just hit the starter buttom) on(battery charger still connected) there was a very high pitch noise coming rom the charger and the bike wouldnt turn over. I then diconnected the left hanlde bar switch and it stopped the charger from screeching.

But when i would turn the bike on and hit the starter button there was a very weird humming noise coming from a part behind the battery.

I honestly dont know whats going on or why this is going on. The only thing i did was clean the left handle bar switch cause im trying to get my horn to work.

If you guys have any more questions on something i may have missed let me know and ill anwser them the best i can.

UPDATE:

okay the battery has 24v when the bike is not turned on or anything, when i turn the key to the on position and the battery goes down to 18v and then when i hit the starter button it shoots to 12v, when i hit the button a humming noise comes from, what it souds like, the starter soliniod.

before all this is was working fine until i took off the left handle bar switch and cleaned it....

24 volts is gonna fry something, how did you find a 24V battery to fit the FJ. I am guessing you mean 12V. Measure with a multi-meter at the battery, don't use the charger 's charge indicator. If your battery is at 12V and drops 50% (6V) while cranking then your battery has gone teets up and it is time for a new one. I guess another possibility is something is shunting the power but that will likely burn wires and other bits. Check voltage again for 12V + before and during cranking. Let us know how it worked out.

Okay ya had my multimeter set on the wrong setting. My bad. It reads 12v. then when i crank it, it goes down to 6, or well when i try to crank it.

Mark, you fell for these antics again.  I seem to remember a crossed plug wire recently ...

If you wired it yourself, anything is possible.     :scratch_one-s_head:

On the contrary, Arnie, I had that one coming...

there's really nothing hard about wiring up a battery. positive to positive and negative to negative. I simply had the wrong setting set on my voltmeter when i went to test it

Ed!!! You naughty man!!! Irishluck is clearly rehabilitated into our FJ commune and was asking for genuine help. He further demonstrated it by not taking your bait and or from rktmanfj (very good jab) but chose the higher road. For your penance you must offer me your blue dots for half of what you were gonna offer them. We might even get him to the next rally and really bruise his ribs in jest of course......
