Well, I read this article; my opinion is the writer is trying to dismiss the bad behavior of the looters by pointing to the bad behavior of the pols and blaming them.  Sorry, my bad behavior does not justify YOUR bad behavior.

Criminals need to be punished.
Arsonists need to be severely punished.

Next!
How then do you suggest the malfeasance and criminal behaviour of the politicians, bankers, news moguls and other captains of industry be punished?

Criminals need to be punished shot.
Arsonists need to be severely punished shot twice.

Your model is in vogue in Syria as well.

The media and politicians are spinning the riots as nothing more than "low quality people taking advantage",
and for sure there are those people that are stealing as much stuff as they can. (We are after all humans, and capable of anything) But there are a few articles starting to emerge telling another story of a poor class that has no work, no chance work in the forseeable future and the politicians have wiped their hands of them, these are the people that are rioting. The cut backs to social services to pay off the national debt has so many people hurting that the riots are a results.
They simply don't give a F--- anymore, same as in Syria, Libya, Greece and Wisconsin.

What a load.  Are we really comparing people protecting themselves and their property from lawless mobs with dictator atrocities - because they had guns in common.

I'd like to hear how the corrupt politicians, media moguls, politicians and bankers being punished by these idiot rioters?  All I see is the little guys, merchant class, getting hurt by punk kids and welfare lifers who want something for nothing while justifying it claims of "disenfranchisement" .. another load of crap.  If you don't like your life on the goverment dole, get some education or training and get a damn job.  The worlds tough, suck it up.  If you don't like it, get political and vote for something better.  Surely things could be better, but burning it down is not an option.

terryk

Burning it down seems to be an option, apparently. It has happened in the States before, and may again.

SlowOldGuy

I think what Danny means is it's not an effective option for bringing about political or economic change.

Sure they'll riot, loot, and burn stuff.  Usually their own neighborhoods.  That always makes a powerful political statement.

Here's another take on London's rioting.  More realistic than the original post, IMO  :hi:

Yup, no bias or extreme views her - The shiftless, looting goons and their liberal allies think rich people should be taxed more, and more economic advantages must be provided to largely uneducated, unskilled, lazy, incompetent goons. So, riots are the result of lazy, uneducated incompetents running amok in society. Not even close. And, Ted Nugent, social dynamics expert, har har. He should stick to his music not social engineering or extremist views. The NYT folks printed this to make fun of Nugent and his like minded friends, and Nugent does not even understand he is the butt of a joke here.

It was the wash times, not NYT.. big difference. NYT would not print this in a million years.  And I don't believe it was printed as a joke.

If wrong, jokes on me too since The Nuge and I are seeing eye to eye on this one.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion, as am I.  I'm a lot more aligned with Nugent.  These folks are not getting enough from the public teat, so they're now going to burn & loot to get more?  I can't accept that!

Yep, I have to go along with Dan, Ed and Ted here.  Welfare should never be a lifestyle.  And, as a working, overtaxed paying American, I am sick and tired of the "huddled masses" not getting off their collective a$$es and making their lot better.

This rap loving gang banging goon mentality needs better role models than Pditty, 50cent and the like.  And Ebonics is not a language.  English is what you need to speak to get ahead in the US. That whole life style needs to be made an embarrassment and a shame.

Just my $.02
