just did an other 20km test ride and the problem is not 100% gone. sometimes it starts running on 2 cylinders for a minute and then it goes back to 4,
could it stil be the neatral switch or do I need to search somewere else

check the fuse connector from the fuses in the fairing where they plug into the main wiring loom .that's why mine was playing up and loosing spark ect
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods
( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne

gijs

checked the fuse and sprayed it with contact cleaner
but that does not help.

the bike start running on 2 cylinders more then on 4 cylinders now

If all the electrics are checking out fine, then to me it sounds like it's pointing to a problem with the carbs, and the main jets being blocked.
Have you had the carbs apart for cleaning or inspection?

gijs

Ive got the craburator boils of and sprayed the jets with carb cleaner

LOL.

To be honest with you gijs, i think that you might need to take the crabs boils off and clean them out 2 or 3 times for best results.
Take all the jets out and thoroughly clean them and all the orifices.

gijs

next weekend I am going to take the bike apart to check out every thing.
I will let you know if I find something

does anyone have a wiring diagram.....

I can show where to get one.
On the back page of all the FJ owner's manuals, is the wiring diagram for that specific model....Don't have a owners manual?
Down load one free from Yamaha:  http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=3483.0

I have swapped the 2 coils and then I get a spark on cylinder 1 and 4, and otherwise it sparks on 2 and 3,
i have tried an other coil and that doesn't help.

If it sparks on 1&4 and you swapped coils and now it sparks on 2&3, then you have a bad coil.  Something must be wrong with your replacement coil.

Why do you think that it is the wiring when the circuit for coils 1&4 and then the circuit for coils 2&3 work correctly when the right coil is used?

Cheers!   Pat
i would agree with pat on this . another question i have is have you changed the oil filter latley if so maybe the wires from the stator got pinched in the housing????

What was the ohm reading on 1&4 nd 2&3 plug caps?
