COLORADO JUNE 2012

Looking for some guidance on accomodations.  I've found nice house rentals that sleep 10-16 people.  The cost would be in the $400/week/person +/- range.  The problem is the beds are usually king/queen size meaning 2 people per bed.  I don't mind sharing a room, but I'm not a fan of sharing a bed.

I've also found what looks to be a nice hotel like this   http://www.cedarlodgemotel.net/index.htm    If we stay at a hotel, we each get our own bed.


What ya'll think?  Reseve a block of rooms or rent a house?

I haven't read all of the previous posts so I don't know if Glenwood Springs was decided as the place to stay so ... apologies if the below is out.

Given some of the ride maps I have viewed in this thread... wouldn't Montrose be a more central location.  From there you could go north and do Colorado Nat monument roads ( see earlier map ).  Then you have the Durango loop if you go south--- and then you also have Black Canyon if you go EAST --- towards Pikes Peak.  

I see three beautiful routes -- From Montrose. ..or close to it...Ridgway or Ouray etc

Other than the dates, nothing has been set at this point.  Looking at the routes I posted earlier, it appears to me there are 3 areas to ride. Grand Junction/Durango,  Boulder/Estes Park, and Colorado Springs/Pueblo.  Looking at those areas, Glenwood Springs seemed more central.  If the majority has a preference of what routes they want to ride, I can look for a place central to those areas.  So far, I'm not even sure how many peolple to plan for.  I think I've seen 6 confirmations, with about 4 more probables.

Where ever we stay, do you have a preference of shariing a bed or sharing a room?

I think Gunnison is the best location IMHO - the same place we had the Central Rally in 2005.  I dug up some of the old information this morning:

Interesting ... I just dug into the KOA website for Gunnison to see about their Cabin availability.  2 of the 4 listed are not available for June 7-10.  I cannot speak for anyone else; but my tired, old bones will not survive a sleeping bag in a tent!  Anyone have a Plan B?

I looked further, and it's not looking too good.  I didn't see anything huge on the Gunnison-Crested Butte Community Calendar http://www.gcbcalendar.com/month.php?searchbox_input=&searchbox_categories=&searchbox_location=&month=6&day=1&year=2012&action=Go, but it looks like there is only a few rooms available in Gunnison.  "B"?

Not to fear Ed!  I made a phone call and took care of everything.  Everything is available (except 1 of the small A frame cabins for one night).
There are 4 of the typical KOA cabins available for $52.00 per night.
There is 1 two room KOA cabin available for $62.00 per night.
There are 4 of these A-Frame type cabins (of their own design, pics here: http://www.gunnisonkoa.com/AFrameCabins@GunnisonKOA.html ) that are available for $35.00 per night.

I cleared them for 3 nights: June 7th, 8th & 9th.

We would also get a 10% discount off of these prices.  I would need to secure these fairly soon.  Feel free to discuss amongst yourselves.  These accommodations would easily sleep 20 people (that is just with two people per room).

I have no problem with KOA.  I was under the assumption that the group wanted to rent a house.  You know what happens when people assume     The routes riden in 2005 look nice too.  They will be new roads for me.  With so many the good roads convenient to Gunnison, Estes Park/Rocky Mountain National Park routes won't be needed.
