I wasnt sure whether or not to put this here, but I wanted to know if it would be possible to change the FJ1100's seat? I saw that it hooked in over the battery and what not so I wanted to know first of all if it was possible(which is should be) and how easy it would be(would it require any modification or extra mounting)

Also one of the best things about the FJ is the comfort so what kind of seat would replicate that level of comfort or atleast come close? and are there any after market seats that would do the job? I am just asking because I dont really like the design of the seat and would like to make it look a little more 'edgy'.

Oh and a rather worrying note, when I took the seat off was draining petrol) i saw a rather large and long bolt fall to the ground. For the life of me I could not figure out where the bolt belonged as everywhere around the area nothing was missing anything. The bolt has to belong somewhere but where? I assume when the dealer had finished repairing the bike they must have just left the bolt there without realising....would it be better if i took a picture of the bolt or does anybody have any ideas? I know it definitely doesnt belong to anything on the seat or on the surface of the things that the seat covers. I also know for sure that it does not come from the frame of the bike.

Corbin makes the Gunfighter and Lady seat .  The backrest (if so equipted) is removable. The picture on this link has red pipeing to match that bike.

They also make a solo seat called the Gunfighter.

Corbin, Sargent, and a bunch of others either make or will make custom seats for the FJ.  Most require you to provide the seat base or at least the catches.
You can also have the seat modified by many auto or bike or boat - upholstery shops.
Or, you can do it yourself.  All you need is some foam, some glue, a piece of cloth backed vinyl, and a staple gun.

It depends what you call edgy, mine came from bagster and is very comfy.

Upholstery shops of nearly any kind have the equipment to do the work.  Find a smaller place and they'll usually be pleased to have an interesting challenge!

This is also the time to consider using a gel insert in the seat, stiffer foam, reshaping to whatever spec, etc.

I have the corbin gunfighter (for two riders) and the passenger is comfortable but the rider seat needs a gel pad or air hawk if you are planning any long trips. I also have the corbin gunfighter drag seat (single seat) much more comfortable lowers ride height. Hope this helps Chris

I've noticed that the FJ factory seats tend to bow in the middle. You can see this by looking at the gap between the seat and the side panels, it's larger towards the middle. Not only that, the factory seat lacks surface area and the foam is thin. I found the factory seat gets real uncomfortable after about 100 miles. I just recently upgraded to a Corbin and I believe it was the best money I've spent. A friend and I took a 200 mile trip this past weekend and my arse was only slightly tired. In stark contrast, my friend rode his Suzuki DR-Z 400 and he was practically riding side saddle by the time we got back.

Haha thanks everyone, definitely helps. The corbins look quite nice indeed :wacko2: so I will definitely consider them and when next months pay comes in will purchase one. Arnies idea of making my own seat is quite challenging for me at the moment as I don't really get much time to work on the bike(the joys of working monday to Sunday) anyway thanks again
