Hi all. Have been reading through the mods pages, have a quick question still lingering..I have an 88 1200, anti dive 16 inch front, I want to upgrade to a later model, to do away with the anti dive which is shot. My question is, if I get a later model lowers complete with brakes etc, is it compatable with the 88's forks?? Have seen yes, but would like to double check before shelling out the bucks that is needed. Thanks for the help, always appreciated. Cheers.

short answer Yes.

you can fit your uppers into any year fj lowers.

89 and later fork lowers and 17" wheel and rotors and brakes.

you can not use a 16' wheel on the 89  and later fork lowers.

89 and later uppers are stronger than the early ones.

Thanks mate, yep I want the 16 to go, it's painfully pathetic..so thats why im updating to the newer 17 and lowers. Just making sure they interchanged. Cheers for the reply.

My 88 (sept) has no antidive and they are the original forks. It also has a 17" front wheel.
What month was yours? Mine was sept built so unless the previous owner changed them they must have done some mods as the year progressed. It's a hard year to get parts for but all the 89 parts fit perfectly. I much prefer the 17" front wheel. But also need new forks. Mine are shot.

It appears that the '88 model year in some parts of the world were leftover '87 bikes, and in others, they were early-release '89s.

I've seen pics of Canadian '88 FJs that are identical to the '89 model, but Lotsokids (and others) have '88 FJs that match up to '87 FJ specs.

No '88 FJ model was sold in the States.

Guess I got the 89 model then. Always wondered about that.

You can't use a 16 foot wheel on any of them.  :)  The 16" wheel will fit, with a huge amount of work and you won't have any brakes....  :sarcastic:
