Hey folks, name is James. Live in Brisbane Australia.

Been riding for may years and had my 1990 FJ for about 12 months now. Having a great time and she doesnt miss a beat even with my girl as a pillion.

Slowly doing little things to make her more personal; dark blue windshield with a lip, braided brake lines, additional LEDs for the brake light.
Waiting on some Vibranators for the handle bars and just today ordered a custom seat from John Moorhouse, and really looking forward to that!

Thinking about some auxilary lights, some great super powered LED spots on ADVrider, but Im still not really sure, mostly concerned around the wiring on the old girl holding up and the power consumption.

Been looking for other little mods, also wondering about a new set of exhausts for her, possibly Delkevic if anyone has any thoughts?

One day I dream of getting another FJ and doing all kinds of interesting mods, maybe a streetfighter... but first I need a shed!

Been reading through all the threads and really appreciate all the great input!

There are or was a few of us in the Brisbane area. I am on the North side I have Modified my FJ for LD riding and if you are interested in that sort of thing jump over to http://www.farriders.com/

Hi James, Im in Canungra just south of Brisbane im currently in the middle of rebuilding 2x FJ 1200s 1988 and a 1989should have one patched up enough to register in a few weeks look forward to meeting a few Fj Riders in the South East.

I am on a local Brisbane list - BRC... supposed to be going for a ride tomorrow (Sunday) to My G if weather is nice
I broke my wriste 3 months ago and I so I am just in the trying to get back to riding fitness again!

I saw about 3 FJ's out around Mt Mee and Samford last weekend - its good to see...

Welcome James!

I have the Delkevic pipes on mine.
They were listed for the XJR1300, and I had to remove my center stand, but I do like the sound (attitude) she has now!

They are the mid sized ones.
They offer some really short ones, and some that are WAY too long for the FJ.
These come out to nearly the same length as stock mufflers.

The only reason I was looking at Delkevics was that they were all I could find without getting stuff custom made
But youve given me an idea now, I wonder if the FJR or XJR cans would fit? If that was the case then Id have the option of Two Bros Akro's and Yoshis as well.

The biggest hassle is not havign a clue how they would sound or what effect on performance will be....

G'day James..... welcome to the group.

Not too sure about the FJR cans, but the XJR's will do the trick - tho your may have to fabricate some brackets to fit to the FJ mounting area or onto the pillion peg mounting bolts.
Not certain, but I think you will find that you will not need to do any re-jetting with just an exhaust can change, but, to get any benefit from the change it would be a good idea to ditch the OEM air box and fit some UNI dual pods. This will allow better breathing for the engine along with the lowering of back pressure from the better exhaust.

For any re-jetting, give Randy RPM a shout here on the forum...... he is the BEST.

As you live on Bne South side, have you had a squiz at Tranzac exhausts out Wellington Point way. I have one of their headers on my FJ. They do not make them anymore, but, the last time I called them about a year ago, they will make a system for you. Another Option is Pipemasters in Bne - rather expensive tho.

I was just reading another thread about UNI pod air filters. I really do like the look of those rather than the OEM box however all the talk of rejetting kinda of hits the old' brain the wrong way as it is not my skill set! Tho I would be more than happy to learn.

Why the dual pods rather than the individual pods for each carbie?
I realise that extra airflow is a good thing and that I would have to adjust the carbies to accoutn for extra airflow but thats all I know!
I also know (because it came off and I had to fix it!) that there is a hose that runs from the base of the airbox to the bottom of the engine - I have no idea what it does but I know the bike would not run properly without it in place. What would I do with that if I installed pods and removed the airbox?
(edit: another thread says this is the cankcase breather?) What would I use to filter for that?

There are some rather expensive options out there for after market exhausts but I am really not wanting an exhaust set up that is worth 50% of my bike!

There was considerable research done a few years ago by members here about which is the best air filter. The conclusion came to a foam oiled filter - and the best one of these for filtering out the smallest particles was the UNI dual pods. Avoid paper element filters as they tend to let bricks through  :biggrin:
The crankcase breather allows the escape of crankcase pressure (there is always some cylinder pressure escaping into the crankcase past the piston rings. A small filter can be bought and fitted to the end of the tube).

Randy RPM can supply both at better prices than can be had here in Aus.

Keep an eye on eBay for your headers. I found mine for $100 :biggrin: here on the coast. I then found a Micron can that was advertised for a Suzi GSXR1000 which was brand new and cost $360 (about half the going price from a bike shop) and just had to make up a bracket for the hanger.

Take your time and you can find everything you need at much better than bike shop prices.

Did you see Waricle Pete's post directing you to motoriders.org forum? Its a local Brisbane mob that I go riding with sometimes.......good mob of folks who like to keep it to social ride pace and explore some of the not so well known back roads. They had a run yesterday which Pete went on (I missed this one as had other plans).

HI there Sean..... welcome to the group mate.
There is not much about the FJ that has not been covered on this forum. If you have a question, use the search function first and if that does not get your answer, fire a question to the masses - someone is sure to know the answer.
We have a carb expert, a suspension expert, fabricators, several motor builders - and a lot of amateurs like me....... we are here to help get and keep your FJ on the road.
