Just got her, not running yet but soon hopefully. Looking for some info and not having much luck.

-what is the min. thickness for stock brake discs?
-will a FJ1200 fairing fit and 1100 frame?
-the frame appears to be bolted together in such away that the engine can be dropped out from beneath,
is that right?
-the air box on my bike is drawing air through two rubber square fittings, is that it or am I missing something that attaches to them?
-the side air scoops on the fairing are ducted back and appear to be blowing cool air over the carbs, is that what they are suppose to do or maybe I'm missing some ducting that takes that air to the square air box fittings?
-does anyone make aftermarket seat covers for these bikes? I've been through ebay and surprisingly there is nothing.

Thanks,
Chris

  (can't help,but it's in the manual)
-will a FJ1200 fairing fit and 1100 frame?
  (Not a bolt up exchange)

  (Yes)
-the air box on my bike is drawing air through two rubber square fittings, is that it or am I missing something that attaches to them?
(it's been a while since I had an airbox but that sounds right)

( the ducts blow air on the cylinder head)
-does anyone make aftermarket seat covers for these bikes? I've been through ebay and surprisingly there is nothing.
  (I haven't seen any)

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris.
Stock brake disc thickness is 7.5mm on the 1100's....... I would think around 7mm would be min, but that's not gospel.
A 1200 fairing is not a direct bolt on, but others have done it with some fabbing of brackets etc.
Yes the engine is removed that way........ may be easier to support the engine and lift the rest of the bike off it once you have it unbolted.
The air scoops are supposed to direct air onto the top of the head. Can't help you with the airbox question, but it doesn't sound like OEM to me.
There are several seat covers on eBay....... just try a search for "Yamaha FJ seat"....... you will get results for FJ600 as well, but I see 4 or 5 covers listed for 1100/1200 (same seat on all years).

(edit..... confirming that the wear limit on 7.5mm discs is 7mm per the service manual)
FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

Thanks gents, 7 mm, perfect at least I don't have to replace those. I saw those seat covers for the 1200 but assumed they wouldn't fit the 1100. Good to know they are interchangeable.

The listed weight of a 1100 seems to be anywhere from 500 to 600 lbs depending on which source I'm reading but the 1200 seems to be another 60 odd pounds more but with no real power gain, can anyone explain this?
Thanks,
Chris

Bigger fairings with bigger support brackets........bigger windshields. More acc. like reserve switch and fuel pump, which means more wires and more electronics etc.
