We'll be up in West Orange, but I grew up in Warren county (just outside of Port Murray) so I'm pretty familiar with the roads in Hunterdon, Warren, Morris and Sussex counties.  My ride to the ride typically involves me going at least up near New Hope/Lambertville, because the roads down here pretty much suck.  I was just up on Rt 650, and I always try to get in a jog down to Lake Mohawk (I think that's 613, yeah?).  I'm sure I've missed some choice roads up in Sussex though, and I'm always game for a ride.  We'll definitely have to get together for a ride sometime soon.

Yes That's 613, East Shore tr. the lake leg of it is a little boring but once it turns to Andover Mohawk rd things get fun. I absolutely love rt 661 in Lafayette (Beaver Run rd) & rt 521 through Warren/Sussex counties is a must ride ( The Owassa Tpk stretch is my personal favorite). rte 650 is good too, have you been to The Hawks Nest yet or ridden in Orange county NY @ all?

I'm sorry to hear your Moving to W. Orange. it's a nice place to live, your right next to Montclair, nice town with lots to do, but the riding there is beat. too many lights, people, cell phones etc.

I'm not sure what top speed is on mine. I've had her up to 125mph a coupla times with engine rpm to spare but she gets a lil gutless beyond that. I'm a big dude, 6'2" 250lbs. I don't think she likes pushin me that fast. but yea, all the reviews of the day say 145-147mph

Mine goes up to top speed without any problems.  Me being 6'6" tall and about 280 pounds (pure muscle  :negative:) I'd say that's more than enough to test the speed capacity.  But normally I don't rev past 6000 RPMs.  I'm sure the FJ can take it, but mine is my daily driver and I can't afford to tear it up.

Reviews said 149 mph for a 85 FJ1100 a few mods and your 150 mph +.I wonder what top speed is in 5th when you hit the rev limiter.well I imagine its different on each FJ because its electrical.I think based on my speedometer my 1100 has gone closer to 155-156 as it was past 165 mph.Had no gps on me then.RPM I didnt look had stock gearing and I was off the limiter still.I dont see any 1100 or 1200 having any problem with 140-150 mph.The 1200 I just bought needs a lot of work I have not GPS'd it yet I will when its ready.

Has anyone removed the limiter if so what did you do to remove it.I dont see much need for it  :yahoo:

What is the most amount of rpm's that can be run with out tearing shit up.

until the rev limiter kicks in.

You don't have balls big enough to tear it up.
I have seen a FJ motor come out of a bike go into a car. Where it was held between 8-10 rpm's all season long (if not longer). This was aprox. 35 races which includes practices and heat races. Once the motor started getting tired it came out got rebuilt and did it all over again. Remember this is with the motor sideways, so less than great air flow, and with the oil light on so much it had to get disconnected.

there is no rev limiter on a 86 fj only the 1100's had them.

my personal best speed was 155mph verified by chp   I-15 socal  palm desert .
17-41 gears
vh 4-1 pipe
staged carbs
new head work
double clutch spring.

The fj loves to run at 100 all day
nice and stable.

as for the rpms kepp it under 10k :good:

My '90 has a limiter, stock ignition.... I know because I hit it the 1st time I rode her after installing the ign advancer.  It hit it around 11k RPM....  :good2:

521 is a nice road definitely.  I have been to Hawks Nest, a very cool road-in the middle of the week.  I would like to do some riding in Orange county, and for that I'm thrilled with W Orange; Its a hell of a lot easier to get to Sussex, Orange and other places up there than from here.  Shit, Hackettstown is 100 miles away from here, and honestly, there are only a handful of roads worth bothering with in 40 miles of here-its that bad.  Great for the cruiser crowd I guess.

In reality any speed over 150mph on an FJ has you only guessing, you
are focusing so hard on the road ahead that a quick glance at the
guages is THE reality. I have seen my speedo off the dial at +/-
11,200rpm with 17/41 gearing which based on the charts in the files
section would be approx. 176mph. ('84FJ1100 137RWHP). What speed I
was actually doing was of little consequence as the adrenalin rush
was far greater than that experienced from the '99 Busa I
own. It's all about the "character" of the FJ at speed :-)

Can't say right now. Don't have it memorized. But I'll put GPS on it this evening and let ya know.

Well, I'm 250lbs, and have a full wingrack, Givi E41 side cases and crashbars (Which have to add at least 30 lbs to the weight) and at 6000 RPM in 5th I'm doing a touch less than 110.  That's with 18-39 gearing.

While not my daily rider/driver I ride to work typically 3 times a week.  Honestly, I don't have an artificial limit I put on engine RPM.  But then again, how often does one stay above 6K RPM, especially with this torque monster? Granted, from the factory the early FJs had short gearing (and if you still have that on there you're going to be up in the 5's at highway speed, just to keep up) but that's why I went to the taller gearing-so I wouldn't be all in the motor's behind going 75mph. If the motor is in good mechanical condition I don't see what the worry will be, besides killing your gas mileage.  My bike has 77K miles on it, runs like a top and only uses a half a quart over a 5000 mile oil change interval (Amsoil 10-40 motorcycle oil).  That's less oil used than many cars with larger, less stressed engines with fewer miles on the clock.  Something tells me that even when I rebuild the motor (sometime after 100K miles and when I can afford to have another bike to ride while this is apart)  that it will be more because I want to and not because I have to.

GPS says that I was going around 107 MPH @ 6K rpm.   But I have 18T-40T gearing, which helps a little.  Accuracy of gauges, GPS, and all other little things considered, of course.
