Got my 84 1100 running thanks to all of you (have done a lot of reading here). Bike idles a little rough, carbs were cleaned and reinstalled. Starts up fine ...but will not start and stay running with choke on...to start it you have to give it some throttle and then warm it up with out the choke. Runs great at high RPM but pops in the exhaust when you decelerate and if you are going slow at low RPM's it runs very jerky and pops a lot. If  i adjust the carbs to take away most of the popping (can not get rid of all of it) she won't idle, and if I set it so she will idle nice I get the popping. So is it possible that some yahoo (previous owner ( bike was missing internal parts when I got it)) tried to jazz it up by jetting the carbs, if so how can you tell. If I'm way off (maybe I'm the yahoo) than what could it be  :dash2: Please help... Northern Illinois FJ 1100

Thanks

Pilots and/or choke circuit sounds like it's still perhaps dirty.

There's something else wrong someplace, but imo you'd be time ahead to absolutely doublecheck those areas.  While you're in there, write down the current jet sizes involved as well as the mains, and post up a list of what all mods have been done.

Not sure on the jets but will find out. No stock airbox or exhaust. Think the clutch master is off of an FJ 1200. Has a Suzuki 17" rear wheel. Like I said it was not running when I bought it, got it running and have been ridding with a few issues. Thanks for the help and look forward to more. I'll do some double checking and follow up in the next few days.

Check carb synch, if it is way off your bike will idle poorly. You need a synch tool, adjust cylinders 1&2, then 3&4, and finally 1/2 set to 3/4 set.

It's a good idea to check valve clearances 1st, and adjust them if necessary...
