Dam thing quit again today. I think I need to go thru the carbs, just checked the oil and it smells like a gas tank. Needle and seat or could the petcock have a slight leak? Randy, could I put a set of the later carbs on and add a fuel pump or is space a problem? My local stealer wants up to 800 to do the carbs and another shop that works on most older bikes says about 400. I am not very good with carbs. Randy could give me an estimate for all the parts I would need to rebuild the carbs. Thanks to all that reply, this had to happen just because the weather is starting to get better.
You could send your carbs to Randy, he will send them back good as new (race ready). I think he offers competitive pricing from what the others are charging. Get a quote from him. Can't hurt to ask. Others have enjoyed his work.

FJ the only problem with that is Randy is in California and I live in Canada and I think the shipping charges would be prohibitive and with the postal strike it would take a while to get then there. I just downloaded the carb cleaning info from Dan Raforth and I might just give it go. Would probably need four complete carb kits.

Oh, the shipping might really suck, the cost and delay time....Read through the instructions, take your time, don't drink too much of that Canadian beer, and you will have some clean and ready to Koookalooo carbs.

Who's Dan?  :-)

The carb kit that Randy now sells includes hardware for all the carbs.  Only 1 kit is required.  If you need to replace needles and seats, then you may need to order additional parts.  Check with Randy.

Sorry David. I was having a bad day on Sat. the bike quit and then the bloody elements went in the oven. You say that the carb kit Randy sells does all four carbs. I sent him a pm but he    hasn't answered me yet. What I would like to do is buy a new set of carbs and start from scratch as I want to put some Uni filters on. At $400 dollars for a set of carbs it is almost worth it to go that way. I just wonder what shipping and taxes and duty would be. The fellow that I am taking the bike to is really good with older bikes and he doe's not try to rip a person off. If anybody is in the Kamloops B.C. area and needs help Midnight Motorcycle is pretty good place to go. Rob can be a bit grouchy at times but doe's good work. The local yamaha dealer tried to tell me that it would cost about $800 to do a carb job.

I just about had a heart attack. Priced a new petcock $284 going to try and fix the old one or put a pingle on.

Just talked to the guy who is working on my bike, he said that the petcock is fine and resync,ed the carbs. Said that it runs good, almost pulled his arms off when he took it for a test run. Have to put new sprockets and chain on and do the rear brake pads. Also installed some braided lines on the front, flushed the rear brake lines, all this for $350, didn't think that this was to bad. Now all it has to do is quit raining so I can bring the bike home.

Great news, enjoy the ride!
