Ignition Key

I just checked with my local Yammy dealer and he told me a factory key is not availible.

Does anyone have a source for a factory Yamaha key blank for my 1991 FJ1200?
The only key I have is one that looks like it came from a hardware store! LOL!

LOL my spare key says Harley Davidson on it.... it was the only blank the locksmith had that would work

The steaming irony of that kills me.....My old Rx sunglasses were HD, I found that ironic as well. My early days on bikes had some good experiences from Harley guys helping out a sport rider guy. I see the differences and then I don't. We are all on two wheels. I understand the root cause of getting out of the 4 wheel cage. We are all just like dogs enjoying sticking our heads out of the window and the freedom we feel from it. I like to lean over and go faster in the corners a lot more than than the typical HD guy, but I don't fault them for their choice of riding style. Even if they pay way too much for a bike.....

Leon, I bought blanks from this guy a while ago.  It took 2 tries, but he finally came up with the correct blank for the FJ.  IIRC, the key in the picture is the correct blank for the FJ.  Still looking for a locksmith to cut the key, however!

Well, I guess I care for my own bike.
I still have the 2 original keys to my 82 Suzuki, and thougfht it would be nice to have at least one OE key for my FJ.

Thanks Ed, but that is exactly what my key looks like now, hoping to find a plastic headed OE key blank.

I just talked with my local Yamaha dealer, and he says I should be able to get one. He just needs the key number.I am at work now and don't have the key with me, but will check when I get home tonight. Will post back later.

Pick the lock/ take it to a locksmith, he *may* be able to reverse engineer a key, at least he should be able to get it open.

Baring that, a drill will work...

Hey Pete.

If you ever need to use it on your bike, just remove the entire filler assembly from your existing tank and swap it onto the spare tank.....now you have filler with a key.
