G'Day Rock!
What are you riding, the Wee?

Yes, the WeeStrom. I'm too damned old to ride the FJ that far; the carbs are gummed up; and I don't like to trailer it. Plus it's just more fun to ride to a Rally.

So, does this mean Norton ain't gonna make it?

Regardless of whether I can make it, Norton will be staying at home.

He (and his forthcoming brother!) might be coming to Tellico, but that's a long ways off.

congrats, stu!

I plan to leave 0-dark-30 on wednesday morning.  I may be able to hook up with Dan in VA, otherwise, I'm shooting for noon at Mabry Mills.

Need to change the oil today.  Its pouring rain, so it looks like my son's lax game will be canx, and I'll have some time.

chris, careful with the oil change on the fjr.  use a crush washer and don't trust the torque spec numbers, fjrforum guys have stripped many an oil pan using the yamaha numbers!

Dean,
Don't jinx me, man!  I've got crush washers, filter, oil and sample kit ready to go.

Rock,
Thanks for the info on the closure. Looks like we'll be taking the detour.

I've totally broken the pre-rally cardinal rule of "don't screw with it".. In the past couple nights I've changed oil, adjusted valves, and mounted new front tire..  Just got back from short shakedown to make sure nothing falls off, leaks, rattles, etc..

I'm packing duct tape.

Any one coming have a clutch slave seal kit?

Mine doesn't seem to be leaking, but it did require some pumping of the lever to get full clutch action when I got it out last night to work on it.

Gonna make a lunch suggestion: Galax Smokehouse, 101 N. Main, Galax, VA. Coupla miles off the Parkway at the VA border, Rt. 89. Memphis-style BBQ; rave reviews...http://www.thegalaxsmokehouse.com/

Anybody interested?

-Rossi-

You guys still want to meet up for lunch Wed?  Looks like I'll be riding in with Chris P and we're shooting for Mabry Mills area about noonish.  Rock if you want to go to the Smokehouse place in Galax, I'm cool with that but will be closer to 1pm getting there.

So Mabry Mill around 12 or Galax smokehouse about 12:45-1p.

Somebody call it.

Anybody got kabin space and want to share the cost Friday & Saturday nights?  If I can avoid packing the tent, loading the bikes gets a little easier and it makes for an easier Sunday coming home.

I was originally taking the red-eye from California Friday morning, but work had a change of plans and I'll be home Thursday night to load the bikes.  (I'm bravely assuming they'll give me the day off Friday.)

Andrew has a Latin final exam Friday 8-10, and then is done with classes for the year.(*) We're taking the fun way to Boone Friday - I-85 to South Carolina, SC-11 to something twisty, maybe the road to Rossman, then through the hills to Boone.

Looking forward to it a lot.

Stu, sorry to miss you guys this time....  Call ya soon.

I'm still hoping things work out in a couple weeks to get me to California on the bike, but that is less likely.

I'm still planning on Mabry Mill, if I get there in time. I'll be leaving tomorrow morning with the aim of getting to Clarksville, TN or thereabouts by nightfall, then on to Boone on Tuesday barring any unforeseen circumstances. It was just too cold/wet to leave today.

Hmmm, you know that Pat doesn't have any one to spoon with and has offered his '93 to ride up to the WCR?

I wouldn't dream of it, Klavdy, I know how jealous you get....

The problem would be getting the time off work that week and weekend.  (Nice problem to have.)  There's a bit of a deadline, and I can hopefully make a case for taking off Friday for the ECSR and avoid doing it as a one-nighter, but I think the first couple weekdays of June are right out.  (Otherwise, I'd be tempted to do a reverse-Iron-Butt-Mike and ride non-stop from here to California.)
