so what do i have to do to make this work? make engine mounts? or can i buy some?

irishluck

and also, some extra information. I only have the main frame on the 91. not the seat frame? or w.e you all it, the swing arm, the frame part were the engine sits on.  i just have the main frame with the vin number on it and thats all.

I'm not sure if the lower frame rails (which include the engine mounts) are able to be swapped between generations. If they are, then you should be able to do it.
Any one else tried this?

I would like to know too.Can I install 1200 lower fraim rail's on my 1100 frame and then install a 1200 engine into the 1100 frame ?.
Seems simpler than puting a 1200 top end on the 1100 bottom end if it can be done.
I am guessing theres more too it than frame rails as I have not read about it.

hey heres what i got so far, i put the 91 frame up to the 87 bike just to kind of look and see if there were any differences.

So far as i know of the forks and the seat frame? will mount up the 91 frame BUT the side frames witht he engine mounts on it are completly different on the 87 to the 91.

Thats where im stuck with  right now, but now i have another question. if there both fj1200, did they both use the exact same engine? cause if so i can just get those side frames and ill be good to go.

Flying Scotsman

Can a 1200 engine be installed in a 1100 frame if  i use 1200  lower frame rails ?Are the side plates the same rear mounts etc. What all would I need to do to drop a 1200 into a 1100 main frame.

The rubber-mounted '91 and later engine won't work, but any others should, just need the lower frame rails to match.  The late engine may work if you change out the mounts, I don't know...

So a 86 or 87 would work.Rear bolts /side plate would match up then. With 86 or 87 lower frame rails.

the the mounting points are the same on all FJ and XJR engines.... the frame is where the changes are.

any year engine will work in any year bike.

Flying Scotsman

So any 1200 motor will work in my 85 1100 with the 1200 lower frame rails that are the same year as the motor.

Any FJ engine will bolt into any FJ frame. Use the stock mounts off your 1100 unless you want to run the FJ1200 lower fairing(dust bin) then you would use the lower frame rails off a 86 to 90. The 91 and up is a total bag of worms.

you dont need anything extra to put a 1200 engine into a 1100 frame.......like was said you just re-use all your existing engine mount hardware.    The mounting points on all the engines are exactly the same for all years and models.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.
I feel under powered.I started up my 1999 GP1200 yesterday it has about 160-170 hp and runs on 100 octane it sounds freekin awesome and the race gas mixed with with 2 smoke oil smells wonderfull.I cant wait to get it to the water. The FJ really needs a 1250 or more with a ported head on it IMO.When I can afford to do it I will upgrade the FJ.I have a 1997 GP1200 for sale for $2000 I would even sell the 1999 GP1200 for $4200 or $7000 for both on a double trailer.I did just buy a EK ZZZ chain now I need a rivet tool to put it on.Going to do a little at a time as money comes available.Chain and forks are first but I will be watching for the right deal on a bigger engine. If I sell the 97 that would get me a nice engine for the FJ.
