Stock exhaust, pod filters - does this make any sense at all?

Greetings from Finland!

I have a '93 FJ. It has stock exhaust on it and also standard airbox. I think the airbox is a major PITA when servicing the bike.

Does it make any sense at all to remove the airbox and replace it with individual pod filters? What kind needle height/jet combination should be used with this combination.

Welcome to the group Reverend.

If you do decide to remove the airbox, go with UNI dual-pod filters...... they are far more efficient at keeping the dirt out than any individual pods.
Randy here on the group can supply them.

I doubt you would have to alter the jetting if you are not also replacing the OEM exhaust.

I am in the same situation.  I just replaced my airbox with uni pods, and I want to re-jet to get rid of some of the erratic throttle response, especially at small throttle openings.  Does anyone know about what my settings should be?  Main jet, pilot jet, needle height (factory pro needle), air mixture screws, and fuel level in the float bowls?  I would really like to get this as close as possible so I don't have to re do this too many times.  I have a '91, stock motor and exhaust, with uni pods.  And I am at sea level.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My bike is pretty close to yours.  '91 dual unipods, stock engine, stock headers and collector with slip-on cans.
I've raised the needle 1 clip (0.040 or 1mm) from middle position, and put 115 mains in instead of the stock 110s.  Runs great.  Stock everything else in the carbs but probably a bit worn as I have 130,000kms now.
